The North Face Men's Venture Pant keeps you dry and comfortable during travel and trekking. Lightweight, waterproof and breathable, the Venture pant stuffs easily into its own left pocket—leave it in your pack for unexpected cold fronts and inclement weather, or wear it as a comfortable travel piece. The Venture features HyVent DT, a highly breathable, waterproof fabric with a raised microdot inner surface that acts to lift the shell fabric away from your skin. This provides a comfortable, soft, easy-sliding feel while maximizing moisture transport away from your skin. The result: you stay drier and warmer. The Venture pant comes with an elasticized waist with a drawstring and two hand pockets.
Bottom Line: All-around weather protection combined with high-tech breathability at an incredible price.
I haven't used these as rainpants but they held up great as a quick fix snowpants. Paired with a light fleece pants and a baselayer these worked great as I explored my campus after this weekends snow storm.
One day before a week long field I found out it was suppose to rain for our entire trip. So being a Geology student, and knowing that I'd spend all but 6 hours in a dry place while working in the field, it was apparent that I'd need to get something to keep my legs dry and also be somewhat durable. Not having much time I ran down to a local sporting goods store and bought these pants. It was all they had under a hundreds so I tried them on. They were a little short; basically 32x32 when i needed 32x34, but I was too tight on money and time to find something else. Once I'd got home I read on the tags that they'd eventually lose their waterproof property after several washes; wasn't to happy about that, but I moved on. Anyways, we packed up and traveled up to the Mid-continent Rift system to get more than our fill off intrusive rocks and their principal minerals. As promised, it rained throughout almost all of the days and stayed well below 35 degrees, we even got some snow. Let me say I was impressed by how well these pants held out days of rain, mud, and abrasion from climbing and sliding down sharp rocks. They even managed to keep in some heat, but this probably means they don't breath that well. Almost forgot to mention, the bottoms have velcro to help seal around your boots and keep debris out; a nice feature. For 70 dollars, these pants made what would have been a miserable trip into a bearable one. If you're looking for a waterproof pant under a hundred you can't beat these. They're tough and do what they say. However they wont remain waterproof forever like gore-tex, and they run a little short meaning if you wear a 34 inseam these probably will be too short to wear with shoes. Another thing, if you're active, try and spend a little more and get something like an endura cycling pant it'll give you more versatility. Wish I'd bought those instead, but I didn't have the time and these worked perfectly. They were adequate for the job and a little more, 4 stars.
These are nice pants, they are thin though. If you're in cold weather, you definitely want a base layer. The zipper on these pants broke within the fist two or three zips. Hopefully just a problem with this pair though. Otherwise, they're good for the price.
Living in the northwest and riding year round, we get a lot of rain; they haven't failed me, but like Dave said, have warmer layers underneath. Good luck.
Hi Henry- These pants will be 100% windblocking. There is a full side-zip version of these (Venture Side Zip Pant) that I think would be more convenient when using these pants with boots and over clothes - make sure you upsize as well to make room for pants- Hope this helps
This is a great light weight water proof trail running pant for a reasonable price - its over 50% less than a paclite pant. I have used the pants for trail/road running when the weather has turned south, kept me dry while not being cumbersome.
I was wearing these pants during a sleet storm hiking the AT section of the Smokie Mountains and the right pocket zipper broke (separated) and would not rezip. Precipitation entered via the broken pocket resulting in a wet leg and socks. Not a very pleasant experience.
Combine these pants with TNF Venture jacket and you have the perfect waterproof set for hitting the backcountry. The pants (and jacket) are super lightweight and pack into the left pocket, which makes them perfect for stuffing into your overcrowded pack. Highly recommend, great product.
I was in Alaska for two weeks this summer and needed and pant that was very water resistent, lightweight, and easy to slide on and off. These pants were everything I expected and I highly recomend them!
I purchased these for a waterproof/windproof layer on motorcycle trips. They have worked really well, no warmth of course, but I stay dry, and they are very light, and don't suffocate my legs. I wish they were a little easier to remove with hiking boots on, but i would consider packing them hiking, if i found myself in a ridiculously high rain area. For the motorcycle application, they are great.
The Description of The North Face Venture Pant above says it all. I used in some pretty bad weather conditions and it stand just like the descriptions above.
I am very glad I have these pants. They allow me to go outside in all kinds of weather, and I need to do so. I have a dog, and now I am able to follow her in the high grass and in the woods, and I never get wet. Beautiful pants. Theyre very good and practical, there are even two zippered pockets like in normal pants.
