The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Women's - 2006
Good lookin' and warm, warm, warm, the Nuptse Jacket is one of The North Face's best-selling jackets. With 700-fill down, it's super toasty, lightweight, and highly compressible. If you're prone to cold, you'll dig this down jacket. Wear The North Face Nuptse Jacket alone for use in cold, dry conditions or under a weatherproof shell for complete snow and rain protection. Double-layer taffeta reinforces the shoulders for added durability. Sewn-through construction keeps the down from shifting, reducing cold spots and ensuring warmth. Two covered zippered pockets warm frosty fingers and hold your things. An internal zippered horizontal pocket is easily accessible for convenient storage. A single-hand elastic drawcord at the hem seals out the elements. *Please note: TNF outerwear tends to run a size larger than you might normally wear. Please consult the sizing chart to determine your proper TNF size.
Bottom Line: Classic down that keeps on keepin' on; The North Face Nuptse Jacket.
no question...this jacket should be part of every womans quiver! a basic must! warm, packs small, looks cute, and just enough durability to make it last for years...but a price that makes it so you dont feel too badly buying a new one every couple years. fabulous new colors every year!
Phunk's girlfriend says: This jacket is great. It keeps me warm & toasty on even the coldest Utah winter nights when I'm on the trails, walking the dogs. The drawstring does a great job keeping cold drafts from sneaking up past my waist.
I own the nuptse vest, but my wife wanted the full blown version. She always wanted one for the style so I bought her one. She is always cold, no matter how many layers she wears she always is complaining about being cold. Until this jacket came in the mail. She told me that this jacket is officially the first jacket that she has ever worn that she gets TOO hot in. Amazing, 11 years of her griping about the thermostat and all I had to do was buy this jacket. You ask my wife? She says this jacket is so good. You ask me? I say my ears are no longer ringing.
I live in Wisconsin where it gets cold early and stays cold for a long time. I am a cold weather wimp - but I LOVE this jacket. It's light, comfortable and warm, letting me stand outside for countless hours of football and soccer!
this jacket looks different from the jacket under the same name at REI. The arms are bigger and not as snug as the one sold at REI. Are these the same product or different models?
Hello from New Zealand Its very expensive to buy 'The North Face' gear from our retail stores, so I found this company online. Even after converting $NZ-$US it STILL worked out cheaper. I love the jacket and it arrived to me very quickly and in perfect condition. I'm stoked with it.
I love this coat. I live in Chicago and the winters can be pretty brutal. Even in early Spring, when I could wear a lighter coat, I choose to wear the Nuptse because it is incredibly comfortable.
I talked my wife into buying this jacket and she has been in love ever since. very warm and comfortable Don't buy the white color gets very dirty around the cuffs especially if you have small kids. also must be dry cleaned. Very happy with this puffy!!!
I love, love, love this jacket. Bought it in black and it looks great. Beyond the looks- it fits perfectly, not at all boxy and is SUPER warm. I'm a 6ft tall girl and bought the jacket in a size medium and the sleeves are long enough. I'm super stoked!!
Does this zip into all TNF shells? Do they ever make different seasons incompatible to force you into buying the newest down to go with your shell? (I think I'm getting the 08-09 Varius Guide.)
I know Lisa asked this question a while ago, but I wanted to double check and be totally sure before spending lots on TNF jackets.
I have had this jacket for about 10 years now, and it's really the best jacket when its freezing cold out. It is great to take backpacking because it is light and packs well. This is going to be one of those jackets I keep forever.
Hey, I own about 7 The North Face jackets: all different degrees of warmth for different climates, this jacket is absoltly beatiful and resilient. It also snaps into a waterproof shell (i recommend these!!). I get so many compliments. True to size...also wash it once before you wear it, the poofiness comes down. When it arrives it was very poofy and marshmellow-like, but after one wash/dry (follow the instructions on the label) it looks beautiful!
A warm jacket that keeps out the wind, lightweight and stylish. I also have the older hooded version which I absolutely love but they dont make it anymore. Great no frills jacket that gets the job done. A staple in TNF clothing.
can I return this jacket if it is too big? It's on sale, so does that mean that the purchase is final? I am 5' 7" and weigh 130lbs. I have a Patagonia down sweater and the extra small is almost too big. Will the small Nuptse be too big as well?
backcountry.com has a very liberal return policy. Just hang on to your receipt/packing slip as there is a portion you will need to mail back with your return. As for sizing, I'd take a look at the size chart and keep in mind what you plan on layering under and/or over it. Someone a couple reviews down said they thought it runs true to size...
I bought a The North Face Nuptse Jacket and I absolutely LOVE IT!! It is by far the warmest winter coat that I've ever had. I would highly recommend this coat to anyone!
I have been looking at and longing for this jacket online for like ever, but never had the money to get it. But when I saw the color I wanted (diamond blue) only had one more left in my size, and it was 20% off, I jumped into action and used my moms credit card and am making payments to her. And jeez it is worth it! The outside of the jacket feels almost like silk, and the inside the same. I thought the coat would be big and bulky, and I'd look like Michelin Man, LOL but the shipping weight was only 1.7lbs!! It is so lightweight and the down is so soft and non-bulky, I swear it feels like your wearing nothing, except for the excellent warmth it provides. I would highly recommend this jacket. The only thing I don't like is that it's not waterproof. But I still give it 5 stars!!
This jacket rocks!! This is my second one like it, as my black lab ripped a hole in the first one and I was devastated. This coat is perfect for our bitter cold days here in Minnesota! The sleeves could definitely be longer though! Never-the-less, it's a great coat for all winter outdoor activities!
This jacket is one of the lightest and softest jackets I've ever owned. It fits maybe a little big, but its great if you are wearing a sweater. If you like your jackets tight then you might want to order a size smaller. Overall, a great buy! I would definitely recommend this one!!
I am really impressed with backcountry.com. I wasn't able to find the right color or size in local stores and Christmas was quickly approaching. I went onto your website, found what I was looking for, and even received shipment one day earlier than promised. Fast, knowledgeable, friendly service at a stressful time of year. You made my holiday shopping so much easier. Many thanks and I will continue to check out your website for great deals. I would highly recommend your company to anyone.
I LOVE the Nupse jacket-probably the warmest jacket I own ( and I am a collector!) It runs big but is super comfy and looks great! I like it better than my Mammut and Arcteryx jackets-kinda like comparing a Lexus to a Saturn?
Great jacket. Definitely the classic down jacket. Doesn't make you look svelte but it sure keeps you warm. Really like the igneous purple color which to me is more of a burgundy.
This vest is awesome! The cut is great to a woman's body and is not bulky at all. I love it because I can zip it into my north face gore-tex shell jacket for added warmth when I go skiing or snowboarding. It's also great to wear by itself in the fall.
I bought this jacket at the same time that I bought the Nuptse vest. I can't complain about the price since it is worth the money! I thought about getting the jacket with the hood attached, but the collar on this jacket offers good coverage on the neck and isn't too tight when zipped up. With it's superior warmth and quality, it isn't bulky at all and I love the color of the powder blue.
I love this jacket. It is nice and warm and puffy and light. I used it backpacking in the lake tahoe, ca region last weekend and it was perfect for the trip. It was high 30's at night and I wasn't cold outside the tent with the jacket on. As a bonus, it also makes a great pillow once you are in your sleeping bag.
Also, I ordered the large at first since it said it ran big, but had to exchange for the medium. Medium is normally what I wear so it was true to size.
My only concern based on other reviews is durabililty, but I guess I'll fine out. It seems fine new.
I'm 5'4" with an athletic body. This product was too short for me. The arm length was good, but the jacket didn't stay down if I lifted up my arms at all. This became apparent on a camping trip where I had to bend down and stand up a lot to tend to a fire. Otherwise, loved the color and the look of it! (Although I wish The North Face made its logo a little less front and center on every piece of clothing they make...but that's just my aesthetic.)
I'm so glad I ordered this coat! It's one of the warmest, most comfortable coats I've ever owned and unlike my peacoat it doesn't weigh a ton. The length is great and sleeve length is good too. I think it ran fairly true to size maybe a little large.
I love this jacket. I tried several before I decided on this one. I'm tall (5'8") and some of the other jackets were too short and the arms were too short as well. The color of the jacket is great (I got the brown) and the fit is perfect. It is very light weight but warm. I wear it all the time. Looks great and fits great.
I always wanted to get a North Face jacket, because I have heard from my friends that they have the warmest jackets, and I was always cold so I thought that I would give a try. Right after I bought it, I went to Breckenridge, Colorado on a ski trip and my jacket was the best Christmas gift to myself. It's so warm and so light, you don't even know that you are wearing it. I love it and I would recommend it to anyone to buy because it's worth it.
In outfitting for a climb of el Pico de Orizaba, Mexico in January, I was searching for a "just-in-case" outer insulating layer. The Nuptse seemed to be the one. It was one of my best purchases, as it not only kept me going on our summit bid (as a FIFTH layer) but it also prevented my toes from freezing every night at the 14,000' base camp when I tucked it over my -5 degree mummy bag. I highly recommend it!
I saw the purple one at the store and I didn't like the color it was a dark weird looking purple._________________________________________________
I just bought the igneous purple color in this coat and the purple IS dark, but I would say it is more of a dark plum color as opposed to in the picture it looks more like dark grape. REI has a better deption of the color at http://www.rei.com/product/686773, but of course it's way cheaper here! I personally love the color!
I bought one of these about 7 years ago and I wear it all the time. For really cold days skiing I wear it under a water/windproof shell - I'm toasty on the coldest days when everyone else wants to go inside. I wear it around town on its own almost every day in the winter. After 7 years of heavy use a few holes are starting to appear and the down is coming out. So I figure it's time to buy another.
I really like this jacket, mostly because it comes in a gorgeous blue color! So far I have only worn it in temperatures a bit above freezing - and it is very comfortable. My only gripe with the design is that there is no hood hidden in the collar. That would have made the jacket much more functional in colder or windy weather.
I wouldn't count on this jacket to be water resistant much at all. Down has a natrural water repellant nature but is horrible when it gets wet. In a light snow you'd be okay but that's really about the extent of it. You can treat it with Nikwax DownProof or a couple of other Nikwax products which will make it much better in wet conditions.Hope that helps.
The North Face Nuptse jacket is awesome. It is a warm jacket for the cold winter Alaska days and nights. I have been wearing this jacket for about a month and love it so far. I thought the extra down loft would be too bulky, but this jacket is light doesn't hinder movement in any way.
I love the Nuptse jacket! It keeps me warm on some of the coldest days here in Utah. I can wear this jacket when I go out on the town or I can zip it into my shell for added warmth on the slopes. The fit is better than most down jackets and it's not too fat and puffy to hinder movement. Add to the array of fashionable colors available and you have and awesome versatile winter jacket.
Yes it can. The washing instructions will be included on the tag of the jacket. Also I would suggest washing and treating it with Nikwax to restore the waterproofing on it. Here is the link for that stuffhttp://www.backcountry.com/store/NIK0034/Nikwax-Down-Wash.html?
Living in Florida, you don't have a very big selection of winter clothes. So, having planned a trip to Estes park Colorado this year at Christmas, I felt I needed to do something about it. One trip to backcountry.com and all my clothing needs were met. The men's and women's North Face Nuptse Jackets and matching hats where just the ticket when the thermometer was reading 5 below. I would recommend this site to anyone needing some very high quality winter clothes. Thanks, John
Excellent light weight warm and cozy jacket. I love it. Bought a long version of the same coat and love it too. I wear the long one all the time to keep toasty warm. Thanks!
Hey Carla,Don't stress it! My wife and I were shocked how we dirt repels off this jacket. It took forever for it to get dirty and then when it did we threw it in the wash and it came out looking brand spankin' new! The only thing you should do is add some tennis balls with it when you stick it in the drier.Hope that helps.
I wore it yesterday in cold, windy conditions and couldn't believe how something so light weight could be so warm. Actually I had to unzip it a few times during my vigorous walk. It's fabulous...
Perfect for winter hiking. Folds down in a stow pocket and can be stuffed in a backpack if you get too warm. Nice and toasty on windy ridges or in front of a campfire. Very lightweight but warm.
I live in Chicago and it can get very cold and windy. This coat is super warm yet very light. Having to bundle up all winter can be a pain, I get claustrophobic. With this coat: problem solved. I like it very much. If there is a down side it's that it does carry a lot of static electricity. Well worth the trade in my opinion.
just bought this jacket like 4 days ago, for $149.99, and havent receive yet. now its on sale for only $119.99, can i have a price adjustment when i received it? bought 2 of these jacket.
This coat is great, The soft collar feels good on your chin when you have it zipped up all the way and you can cinch the waist to fit...great for petite people.
I loved my Nuptse jacket when I received it a month and a half ago. While the color was not exactly what I thought it would be, I really liked the jacket. It kept me warm in below zero temperatures. I wore it all of the time. Sadly, my jacket did not hold up to the washing instructions. A delicate cycle wash absolutely destroyed my jacket. The fabric was ripped and torn in several places. I am very upset as I really liked the jacket and am dismayed that the cleaning instructions were so wrong. Word to those of you who have purchased it, hand wash only!!!
I just got mine wednesday January 12th 2005. I love my new coat. It's very warm and I like the color of mine. It's pink and it's a nice color because there's only three students at my school that have them.
This jacket is so great! Its light weight but warm and it looks great with everything. I wear it skiing and on cold days around town. I am a huge fan of the North Face and this jacket lives up to its reputation!
I read some of the reviews but nobody mentioned -40 degrees temperatures. I live in central Canada, am 5' 10 " tall and weight 62 kg. I have very long arms. Could anyone tell me if Nuptse is warm enough for cold and dry Canadian winters? And, what would be the size for me? What else would you recommend for extremely cold weather?
This is absolutely not warm enough for -40 on its own. Something like the Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded would be better, and even then you'll probably have to layer.
I ordered this jacket for my girl, and she was satisfied to say the least! Not too bulky, warm as hell, keeps wind and cold out, and keeps body heat in! Its great for around town and in the lodge. I would recommend for girlfriend Christmas shopping.
For a California girl going to the Illinois winter this jacket is wonderful. It kept me toasty warm. The Nuptse is well made and comfortable to wear. I highly recommend this jacket to everyone.
The North Face Nuptse Jacket is excellent. I received it before visiting Amsterdam where the temperature was in the mid 20s and I was warm, warm, warm! I truly recommend this jacket. It is lightweight, packable, and stylish.
I'm going on a Mission Trip to nome Alaska for the Iditarod Race. My mother bought this Nuptse Down Jacket. Temps range up 20 degrees in the day but get 10 below at night. I will be doing alot of outdoor walking and activity. Will I be warm enough? What type of layering if needed do you recommend for underneath? I have UnderArmor do I need something else? Also< I am 5'6 and 155lbs. She got a medium for me....seems to fit nice now, but I have'nt tried in on with layers yet.
the nupste i a fabulous "lighter" down jacket. for alaska i would definately want a jacket for over - gore-tex best - and layers. i love wool next to my skin for warmth and function. the north face also makes some great wool layering pieces - the softwool crew and 3/4 zip. you will love alaska!
I love it!! We just got back from vacation (which is why I bought it) and it worked out so well. It is such a comfortable jacket to wear. Nice and cozy.
Love the jacket, only item is that it runs very small. Bought the jacket for my mom in an XL, and found that I could wear it (I am usually a S or M), and it was too tight for mom. I decided to keep it for myself though. It packs down into a small area for travel.
This jacket is super toasty. It comes out of the box a little thin, but chill, it will fluff up. It is a great piece to layer with or wear around the town on its own.
The North Face Nuptse is the best jacket for cold weather. It's super warm, yet lightweight and stylish. I live in New England and it has been cold here lately and I am always cold anyway, but I'm nice and warm in my Nuptse. For really cold temps (in the teens or lower) I will wear another layer underneath. This is my 3rd Nuptse jacket, but definitely not my last.
I'd wanted this jacket for the last four years but kept telling myself I didn't need it. London gets cold, but I'd survived thus far. However, this year I weakened and while in the US bought one online, probably my wisest decision this year! Forget it keeps you warm, snug, and it's so light and comfortable. It's more about how good I feel when I'm wearing it, wherever. The Nuptse isn't just about outdoors, it's about attitude!!
I've wanted one of these forever, and finally broke down and bought one this year. I couldn't be more pleased, and I wish I hadn't waited so long! This jacket is very lightweight and comfortable to wear, but extra toasty warm. I was skeptical about its warmth potential when I first tried it on because it's so light, but it keeps me warmer than bulkier jackets I've had in the past. The fleece inside the collar and hand pockets is so cozy and such a wonderful touch. The shape is fashionably puffy but not so much that I look roly-poly, and it is somewhat collapsible and shape-conforming. I found the sizing of this jacket to be generous. I usually have to size up in coats to accommodate my broad shoulders and the extra bulk of sweaters and layers underneath, but my regular size fit perfectly in this jacket. Even the length is just right for my long-torsoed self - just long enough to cover the top of my low-rise jeans when I sit. Props to great customer service, too. I loved this jacket so much that I bought one in a second color late in the season. Two weeks later, the color was discontinued and it went on sale. I contacted LiveHelp, and received a prompt refund for the price difference. Can't beat that!
Purchased as birthday gift, amazed at speed of delivery. Excellent quality, generous size (be careful!). My wife informs me it's the warmest jacket she's ever worn, and Omaha can be very chilly! Very happy overall with product and service.
This jacket is great! It takes a few days out of the box to really fluff up the down. My whole family has this version of the North Face jacket. Only way to improve it would be to add a tuck-away small shell-type hood for those unexpected moments when you need one, but forgot a hat.
Great coat. Wonderful color. Brown is the new black. The jacket is not too puffy but very warm. It came so fast, and the ordering was a breeze. Thanks for the good service!!!
The North Face Nuptse jacket is the best thing that happened to me to survive these cold Wisconsin winters. No more shivering for me! If anyone else out there is a freeze cat, this is the jacket for you! Lightweight and very comfortable A+ jacket!
I coveted this jacket for almost a year and I bought it right before the 2005 holiday season. It is very warm and of course totally stylie! Its meant for around town and hanging out at the lodge, its not meant for snowboarding and a bit hard to clean. I use a natural cleaner on the sleeves and hang dry. Its totally worth it.
That's tough. It depends if you want it right against your skin or you want room to move around. It also depends how much you weigh. If you are really skinny, I'd say small. I am 5'10" 140lbs and I have the same being between sizes problem with the medium and large, but the medium works for me since I like it a bit tighter.
Everything has worked out great with my new jacket. The size was correct, color was accurate, and the jacket was shipped on time (by the time I left for school). The next time I need any North Face gear I will definitely go to this site.
Puffy and warm. Small sizes don't look overly bulky at all. Nice hip length. Only bad thing is that the shell material stains very easily, and difficult to clean.
