The Suunto t3c Heart Rate Monitor Watch uses built-in Training Effect programming to provide extremely accurate, real-time training data based on your personal fitness level. A serious workout for a recreational hiker is just a warm-up for a marathon runner. The t3c Heart Rate Monitor uses information your body provides to let you know how hard you should be training instead of relying on a predetermined program. This Suunto watch also includes a 15-workout memory, real-time heart rate and calorie-burning data, and PC compatibility to track your progress as your fitness increases. Thanks to Suunto's Comfort Belt, you won't even notice you're wearing a chest strap while you train.
Bottom Line: Accurate training with maximum comfort.
I have the GPS pod, and I want to find my actual speed, how do I do this? currently the watch will tell me how long it will take me to run one mile, but I can't work out my miles per hour.
For the Suunto T3c, how in the heck do I set up the speed and distance portion of this watch. I bought it a week ago and can not make sense of this instruction book. Please help.
For Speed/Distance you'll need to have one of the PODs. Open the menu in the HR mode, and scroll down to Pair a POD, choose which POD you have, and turn it on. Once you pair a POD the speed/distance menu will appear as a third mode (in addition to the time, and HR)
+ Two different log screens. -- Log screen of the last 15 training sessions. -- Aggregate review screen of training sessions for this week, last week, this month... etc going back a number of months. This is great for tracking your training progress.
+ You can expand the functionality of the watch by purchasing additional pods. More-so than Polar watches.
+ The HR belt is nice and comfortable. You can completly remove the belt (with included electrode pads) from the monitor, so presumably you could wash it if you wanted.
Cons:
+ The watch is reasonably fat, the lense is convex, soft plastic and there's not even a hint of a raised protective bezel. It's not a case of if but when you scratch the watch face. Mine lasted two weeks before scratches were hindering visability of the screen. Luckily there is a solution zagg.com make high grade polyurethane protective films which solve the problem (the T1,T2,T3 version fits the T3c). I took the watch to a jeweler who polished out the scratches on the face before I applied the Zagg invisibleSHEILD. My only gripe now is that Suunto should have inlcuded such a cover with the watch, it is quickly useless without one. You should factor one into the cost of this watch.
+ There seems to be a bug in the watch software. When you press the lap button the display freezes for a few seconds before showing the new lap time and HR - this is useful for reviewing your lap time and average HR for the lap. However it seems to actually freeze the entire watch, if you are running at night for example, you can't press the light button during this time to actually read the screen, it just wont work. The work-around is to remember this, and press the light button before you press the lap button, then the screen remains lit so you can read it in the dark.
+ Navigating the two log screens is inconsistant between the two, I find this very annoying at times. The buttons for scrolling chronologically in the session history screen are not the same in the aggregate screen, you press left and right in the session screen and up and down in the aggregate screen. Its a small thing but the difference between intuitive or not.
+ With the foot pod, there is no option to display speed as pace (min/km or min/mi) like with Polar watches.
+ With an extra pod the secondary display can show a lot of different information like; max. speed, real-time speed, average speed, average HR, time-till-training-effect-increase, total time and still more! The problem is it only shows one at a time and there is only one button to change between them! So if you accidentally skip the one you wanted to look at, you have to click, click, click... away until it comes round again. whoops! missed it, click, click, click, click,.... Ow! stupid tree! The Polar watch has two buttons to navigate, so if you go past the readout you wanted it's one click to go back, it also has a nice feature where you can just tap the watch itself to change screens, which when you are running makes dodging those wily trees so much easier.
Conclusion:
If you purchase this watch with an appropriate screen protector like the Zagg invisibleSHIELD, it becomes a very useful and full featured training watch. The T3c is a good choice if you would like to purchase Pods later to add further functionality without having to buy another more expensive watch. There are some issues with functionality you should take into account when considering this watch compared to similar models from Polar and others.
I just got a Suunto t3c deep green heart rate watch. I can not for the life of me figure out how to program the basic time, date, etc. It said it would automatically promt me, but it's not. In fact, it already has that information, but it's incorrect. Help?
Firt off, open the instructions and read them. in time mode, hold the mode button (center right) until it opens the menu. Use the top and bottom right buttons (+/-) to scroll thru menus, you'll see time, date, etc. use mode button to enter the menus, and +/- buttons to adjust values.
Just got a Suunto t3c and have tried it out for two Rmp (Spinning/Cycling) classes as the gym. My recent class showed me as having a max heart rate of 185 and an average of 169 over a 40 minute session. The kcal for the session was 469, which seems to me to be a bit low (I was really going for it!). I have set the watch correctly for my age, weight and height. Is there something else I am missing in the set up?
That's probably about right. Competitive cyclists burn anywhere from 400 to 600 calories and hour, so unless you're training for the Tour de France I wouldn't expect more.
Great training buddy! The t3c I thought was easy to use and only took a couple of sessions to learn all the features. The amount of training info that it records is impressive. I also thought the belt was fairly comfortable considering I hated others before. Unlike the other review writer I didn't have trouble lifting weights, when the watch is on lock. All and all I think it's great and I love mine.
These watches are designed as user-replaceable batteries. Just be gentle with the back so you don't cross thread, and with the O-ring so as not to damage it. Recommended to buy a Suunto battery kit.
best to just take it to a professional jewler/watchmaker/watch seller to do it (even the kiosk at the mall or the watch center at your local department store are valid places). otherwise you might hinder the waterproofness by changing the battery yourself
i see that the watch band size says large. i am a bigger guy and is just nervous that if i was to purchase it would not fit. So is the diameter of the band at size large.
I was turned on to this from many reviews online. It is a good heart-rate monitor, however, it is not good for wear while lifting weights (running and biking were no problem). Due to the sensitivity of buttons on the side, everytime my wrist bent while lifting, the watch time would change or the timer would start/stop.
Overall good watch, just, not completely suitable for all physical activities.
I found this watch to be extremely durable. I also found it to have some mechanical problems and went through a few before finally giving up. Great features though.
Obviously it depends on how much you use it. I used mine a ton, every day for at least 2 hours and I've been able to get 4-5 months out of it. Pretty good in my opinion.
My biggest complaint is that start/stop in chrono mid run will add laps. I have to avoiding certain routes due to traffic lights; it'll take more math to figure out pace with multiple laps/ mi. The new heart rate strap is more comfortable than the old one, but it all one piece. It isn't as easy to wash this band when it gets stinky. I love the lock function. Before the lock, I couldn't move my wrist without getting beeped at.
Braco,Its water resistant to 100ft or 30m. =DJC-Braco, I've had terrible luck with Suunto and water resistancy. I wouldn't plan on regularly using it for diving or laps.
This watch has been trouble since I've had it (about a year). It finally died in the middle of a swim because the seal broke and it became saturated with water. I assumed I could have the warranty cover it, but I sent it in for repair over a month ago and they say they haven't even been able to look at it because of a high call volume. i guess if they made better watches they would'nt have a 2 month backlog for repairs. it seems as though I'm not the only one who's watch has crapped out on them. Consider yourself warned...NEVER BUY SUUNTO.
The T3c from Suunto is an extremely functional HRM. I love the k/cal or energy used indication, it's extremely satisfying to see those calories burned away. Finding your way around the logs takes a bit of getting used to but it's because there's a wealth of information. The one thing that's a bother is you cannot read the output when you're wearing polarizing glasses. I wear it for cycling and also for general heart monitoring/trending. Suunto makes great products, I recommend them highly.
Yes, this HRM has calories burned, zone training, watch with dual time, date, alarm, and stopwatch with splits and laps.I got it for my dad last Christmas, he absolutely loves it.
