I have a Titanium Observer I bought from BC two years ago and

I have a Titanium Observer I bought from BC two years ago and the strap is good condition except the clasp won't stay shut.

I hate the thought of having to spend a third the cost of the watch for a new band that I only need for the clasp.

Any other options?

I would try a jeweler since the clasp is unlikely to be proprietary to Suunto. I've had issues with pin type clasps and fold-over type clasps and most jewelers are able to replace them easily. On one irregular, more-fancy-than-required clasp I had break on me, I did have to find/order it on the internet first then take it to a jeweler for replacement, but it was a relatively painless (and much less expensive) process than ordering a replacement strap.

I gave up and went to a jewelery store. It took an experienced technician 30 minutes to install. He asked that I take the strap somewhere else if I need to replace one again.

I changed out this strap in a hotel room with a pair of bent up tweezers. The hardest part was finding the tweezers, the actual process took about 3 minutes, including the cutting. I'm not sure what these other people are talking about. If you can't change this band yourself, you probably shouldn't be in a position to use the watch it attaches to.
Personally, I prefer the deployment clasp because it doesn't hang up on clothing and gear as much. Since it's more complex, I'm not expecting it to be as durable as the standard strap.
