Toss all your synthetic base layers in the trash and opt for the funk-fighting, moisture-managing Stoic Merino Crew Shirt this season. Employing 17.5-micron Merino wool from New Zealand, the Merino Crew Shirt ensures comfortable, dry days whether you're out for a mid-January dawn patrol or an autumn ride down the single track. Merino transfers moisture while your sweat is in its primary vapor form, so unlike most synthetic fabrics the Merino Crew Shirt begins to pull moisture away from your body before your shirt becomes saturated. And since wet usually means cold in the backcountry, warm Merino is the way to go. The athletically-fitted Merino Crew Shirt feels great against the skin so you can wear it during your ride and then to the pub, and your post-ride car mates will thank the powers that be for Merino's natural odor-shunning properties. A reflective logo hit on the Merino Crew's front neckline ensures a little more safety during your evening runs, and the thumbholes at the cuffs take the bunch out of layering.

I've worn this a few times and it fits like a glove - not too tight, not too loose - and the longer length in back keeps me covered. Very soft, doesn't itch at all (as expected) and keeps me comfortable as a base layer or even as the only layer, depending on the weather. I hadn't heard of Stoic before but I'm impressed.
This shirt fits me well, keeps me warm, and feels soft. I wore it biking and I stayed dry and cozy. I will also wear it as a skiing base layer. The thumb holes are well placed. I got the black with green stitching and my boyfriend said it looked nice around the girls (without being revealing) ;-) I might get another one.
Flat lock seams?? What is this like compared to Smartwool or Icebreaker? Is this thin and cool enough to hike in the summer in the Sierras? Is the material see through? Which color is not?
the flat lock seams are detailed in the small detail photos. this stitch uses 5 threads and holds the material flat. This 17.5 micron merino wool, is softer than smartwool, or icebreaker. Lightweight can be used in spring summer and fall, but can depend on early morning temps, to late afternoon temps. choose the darker color for more opacity.
This shirt is amazing. It's light, comfy, soft, and fits better than any other base layer I own. Fits better than most other shirts I own, for that matter. I have a long torso, so it's hard to fit, but it's the perfect length on me. The thumb holes are great, that's what I originally bought it for, but it turned out to be an awesome shirt all around. I also own Smartwool, and while those are also very nice quality shirts and I have no problems with them, the Stoic just seem to be that much softer and better fitting. For being wool, I feel no itchiness, and even with the lighter colors, they're not totally see-through. Great shirt, I recommend to anyone!
