One part function-driven Stoic design and one part wind-resisting Polartec Wind Pro fleece, the Stoic Breaker Fleece Hoody set you up with a lightweight, wind-shunning midlayer ready for anything from an autumn bouldering session to a spring ski tour. The Breaker’s DWR-treated Wind Pro fleece fends off light moisture while blocking four-times the amount of wind compared to standard fleece. Bottom Line: A wind-shunning base layer ready for any activity.
Just received my jacket a few days ago after getting a great price on SAC.
The fit on this is true to size compared to the older backcountry gear which normally ran small. I am 5'8 and 135lbs and the small fits perfectly.
I was initially hesitant on ordering this jacket as the neon orange wasnt my thing, but after receiving it, I kinda dig it! I think this would be a great mid-weight layering piece or a stand alone.
This jacket has become my favorite jacket so far this season. I got the medium in grey with the orange trim. The look is slammin good. It has a very modern tech look without the idiotic teenage wanna be ganster graphics or skater bagginess on this jacket. At the same time, the jacket didn't constrict movement at all. The fit was spot on for me, at 5'9'', 160 lbs and 41 inch chest. One thing that ticks me off about some jackets is that the stomach area is too baggy and pouchy. This jacket doesn't have that problem. One thing to note, the grey isn't really a solid grey. It actually looks a lot like micro-checks, kind of like a screen door. A nice touch actually.Material is superb. The PolarTec Windpro with the hardface outer is, in my lowly, opinion the best all around fleece material if weight and compression are not concerns. I've tried wearing the Retro-X jacket and the Monkey Man, and some other more fuzzy material but that crap just doesn't sit right with me. I feel like Fozzy the bear or some man sized fuzzy stuffed animal. The material blocks fair amount of wind and it retains body warmth very well. I would say that this is at least a mid to semi-heavy weight fleece. Performance wise, you could wear this jacket as your outer wear in all but very windy conditions. The DWR is pretty good so it resist some light moisture...as compared to other plain cotton or poly sweatshirts which are basically sponges. This thing kept be very warm as a midlayer under REI's eVent Shuskan jacket when I did some early season snow boarding in the Colorado Rockies. The jacket is very breathable so you don't get swampy using it as a mid layer under a shell. The jacket has nice features, dual draw string cinches at the waist and hood, tapered sleeves so the wrist opening isn't flapping around, a functional hood, a good sized interior pocket and zippered outside pockets.
actually stoic has become a focused brand, that came from the backcountry stoic jacket and other products we have developed. this is made in Canada, backed by a great Stoic guarantee, and supported by backcountry.com
Got this on steepandcheap.com for about $90. I've been looking for a good sweat shirt that isn't cotton and wind resistant. I'll let you folks know what its like.
I got this on thursday I've worn this thing all weekend and I love it. The material on the outside is ridiculously wind and water proof. Really thick material but very breathable. The inside is an ultra comfortable fleece that keeps you warm.
I'm 5'11'' 140 lbs and got a L and it fits great on a slim body like myself. I've got several comments on it and people can't believe I got it off Tramdock at a steal for $90.
The Stoic Breaker Fleece Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt is everything you are looking for in a comfortable hoody. Its inside is super soft and the outside is on the techy side, it being wind resistant. It is a great fit for me in XL (I'm 6'2 210lbs). Highly recommended!
First, a confession, my name is Brian, and I am a jacket slut. You name a situation, and I've got a jacket for it. Down puffy - check; synthetic slightly less puffy - check; 3 layer pro shell - check; you get the point. This jacket replaces just about everything except for your hard shells. It's comfortable in a wide range of temps, I've worn it down to about 27 degrees and been perfectly comfortable with just a t-shirt underneath. It blocks enough wind to keep you warm, but breathes enough to make it a good choice for cold weather aerobic activity, like cross country skiing. I've worn it every single day since owning it, and have yet to be disappointed in any capacity. It's great outside, it's great around the house, and it's great for that sunday morning walk to the store to get more beer for football.
