The Spyder Men’s Chamonix Jacket provides you with every shred of performance that Spyder is famous for, while continuing to push the envelope on ski style. This three-in-one jacket features a performance shell with a removable outer vest that you can wear alone on milder days. Both layers feature Dermizax EV waterproof membrane and Thinsulate insulation, so you stay dry and toasty whether you’re wearing one or both pieces. Pass-through pockets on the vest allow you to access the jacket’s pockets, and the jacket features core vent zips for on-the-go heat dumps. Internal pockets for your goggles, pass, and MP3 player keep you organized on the mountain, and the zip-out powder skirt keeps snow out of your core area when you’re cutting turns in fresh pow.
Bottom Line: The pinnacle of style and performance–no wonder it’s called the Chamonix.
Critically taped usually means the critical seams (shoulders, arm seams, back and seat seams) are sealed and not the arm pit seams, chest seams and hidden seams. Pretty much only the seams that are guaranteed to get soaked get taped. Hope that helps.
what jacket on this planet shoud Regularly cost anywhere near $970? this jacket better out perform space suits. seriously even if you have the money to spend why would you spend nearly a thousand on a jacket? im guessing its a great jacket but it cant make you have a girlfriend and it wont let you fly so in that case i will save my money and wait for jetpacks to hit the shelves.
save your money and get something else. what would you honestly be contributing to if you bought this?
This jacket is two actual garments in one-a fully-functional jacket and a vest. Unlike some combos the inner jacket is not some sub-par thing that cannot really be worn by itself. Looking at it from this perspective, I would say that their other jackets in the $700-1000 range are the really expensive ones (Alpen, Vail, Zermatt, etc.).
I'm dying to get this jacket but concerned that it doesn't have a hood. I'd use it primarily for back country snowboarding. Spyder has a less expensive jacket with a hood - what to do?
Their "legend" jackets are very nice and really do have features that put them on a high bar even compared to their other product lines. In my experience the great-feeling stretchable fabrics are the best feature of the higher-end jackets (I have experience with Kjus, Phenix, Spyder Legend personally). They help eliminate the "puff-ball" look on the slopes while still allowing you to hit it hard in blizzard conditions in the single digits without heading in to the chalet to warm up every half-hour. BTW-The new Chamonix is now called the SAAS FEE for 09-10 and the vest is on the inside of the jacket-but it does now come with a detachable hood. Unfortunately, it now goes for $1250 as well.
i just bought this jacket locally today on my way to the slopes. it was -20 degrees C today prior to the windchill. this jacket kept me warm all night, even at a stand still or while on the lift. the best part about the jacket is the lack of bulk. it remains very low profile while keeping you very warm and not feeling restricted
