Smith's Variant Brim Snow Helmet features Hybrid construction and a sleek brim to produce an effective helmet with tons of style. The Hybrid construction uses an ABS shell and an in-mold liner to create a lightweight and high-impact-absorbing helmet. AirEvac 2 technology allows this helmet to work well with goggles by channeling moist air away from your goggles and over your head in order to reduce fogging. The Smith Variant has adjustable vents for better climate control, so you don't get a steamy noggin. *Compatible with Skullcandy phone/audio systems (not included).
Bottom Line: Smith's Variant Brim Snow Helmet lets you catch some air without your mom freaking out about how you're gonna die.
I feel like this helmet is fairly light considering the durability of the hard shell. Its bomber, and fit my head nicely, this helmet seems to hold tighter to my head than some. There is really nice vent modulation. the vents are adjustable on each side and have three positions, Its nice to be able to fine tune your venting on those deep days.
Measure your head around, as in the circumference. If it is 23.5 inches, which is what a 7.5 sized hat actually is, then you will be able to get the Large sized helmet. If it is bigger, then you will have to keep looking around for an XL.
Ya I dont know, there's somethin with the construction of this helmet.
Pro's-fits great, lower profile than most with the big dome look, light weight, awesome ventilation...the obvious reasons.
For the negatives....the helmet is built in two pieces, due to the venting I believe. The top portion feels a little flimsy for my liking. Right out of the box if feels like it could almost be peeled in two! There's some play in it, almost like the two pieces aren't totally sealed which is causes this annoying squeaky sound. Feels like if my visor smacks a branch it will peel the top half right off the helmet. Its like im treating this thing fragile'y (sp?) ,afraid of breaking it.
Yeah, I got my variant brim a few days ago and I tried it on with my crowbars and the fit pefectly. The shape of the tope crowbars almost fits the shape of the helment.
Got mine a few days ago and just love it. I used to have a red hi-fi helmet but i changed this year. The helmet is super comfy and holds onto my head great. I for sure recommend it. :)
i bought this helmet to compliment my smith googles more so than the giro omen i had previously. Not only does it fit with my googles perfectly it's overall great. Light, warm, very comfortable and it holds on tight. The vents also allow in an immense amount of air. A +
you would have to have a really large noggin to not fit the large, they are adjustable(see sizing chart). If it doesnt fit just return it, Backcountry.com is great about returns!
I got this helmet last winter because I wanted a bucket cover that had a visor on it. Well the visor ended up breaking after only owning the helmet for two days. I tried to get Smith to replace it and they wouldn't. Smith wouldn't even let me buy a visor to repair the helmet myself. Smith's customer service was not professional and acted short and rude with me. A $180 helmet became a piece of ugly junk in two days. If you wear a helmet for a reason other than looking cool, don't go with a Smith visored helmet.
Smith Warranty Department DOES suck. They are really awful at returning emails and phone calls. HOWEVER, Backcountry is awesome and should replace your helmet, no questions asked. Smith, I love your products but you should FIRE your Customer Service Rep because he or she is CLEARLY not doing their job. Backcountry, you're awesome, as always.
I have this helmet in the bright blue in size medium. I was wondering if you'll be getting it in that colour again for 2009, as I can only see the small on your site. Cheers!
No Variant Brims in a blue color for this year. We've got every color that they offered. There is a dope looking Maze that is kind of neon blue and yellow...
I just received this and I'm pumped. The chocolate check is a badass color. This helmet fits extremely well with the Scott Alias, Oakley A-Frame, and the Smith Anthem goggles, with no gap. The strap system seems secure. I think the brim will prevent putting goggles on the forehead. Venting is easy to operate with gloves on.
Very well designed, awsome style. The vents work perfect, open em when it's sunny, close it during blizzards. My smith phenom goggles fit it perfectly. This helmet is the best. It's pricey, but worth it. According to me.
