SmartWool Ultra Light Skiing Sock - 2006

The SmartWool Ultra Light Ski Sock is the solution for tight-fitting boots. If you don't give yourself enough wiggle room in your alpine boots or just want a thin sock to wear everyday, try these. SmartWool's well known blend of natural and synthetic fibers keeps feet dry and insulated. A flat toe seam eliminates any bulk from this cushion-less sock.

Bottom Line: These socks will let you cram your foot into a too-tight ski boot and still stay warm.

Ultralight ski sock

By:

By far the best performing ultralight ski sock with the power of merino. Boots fit better, circulation is better, and therefore this sock skis as warm as other heavier socks.

warm and thin

Very toasty, lightweight socks that don't add bulk. These keep my feet warm without the added thickness. I can wear two pairs for super extra cold conditions.

nice

They do keep me warm, except for on really really cold days, but I guess a thicker sock would probably make that worse, and the coldness I think actually comes from a problem with my boots, and not the socks. These are really nice socks, I also recommend the Darn Tough Merino Wool Ski Sock, as I have had great luck with those as well.

warm weather

The sock is a little thin for skiing, unless it’s spring, but it’s good for hiking, etc.

Excellent buy for your money. As described, thin and warm. I'll probably buy some extra pairs.

SmartWool Ultra Light (Thin & Warm)

By:
January 9, 2008

I had to switch to these ultra thin wool socks because of some new boots that fit much snugger than my old ones (the price we pay for performance). These are an ideal answer if you need thinness. And they still provide excellent warmth of the thicker Smart Wool socks I had been using. Buy them with confidence if you need the tighter fit. You may sacrifice some cushioning in the shin, etc., but my boots are comfortable enough in those areas anyhow.

These socks are Awesome!

Don't let the name fool you- Ultra Light does not equate to cold feet!!! As someone who has had trouble with cold feet while skiing, I can recommend these socks with confidence! These socks actually have caused my ski boots to feel and fit better than they ever had- I think this may be because there is no extra/unnecessary material to bunch up and irritate my foot. Even though these socks are not thick, they are warm- no problems skiing Jackson Hole in -10 F weather. The kicker is, after wearing these socks for 20 ski-days without washing them, they still didn't smell... try wearing capilene socks for 5 days without washing them, and you'll probably need to put a clothespin on your nose- oh, the magic of wool! Less laundry=more time outside on the slopes, so if that sounds good to you too, get some Smartwool Skiing socks and reap the many rewards of your sub-$20 purchase.

Thin like I like it.

Hands down these are my kind of socks. Thinner than thin and wool. No stink after 3 days of skiing and great for those of us who like a super tight kinesthetic fit in the boot. Buy them.

Love these socks as they feel great inside my super tight ski boots. My feet stayed warm even though the air temp was about 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

Best thin sock out there.

If you have wider foot or higher volume feet you'd be doing your self a favor in picking up a pair of these socks. The wool is supper thin and soft, they do a great job of reducing friction and make my feet very happy.

Wide feet = thin sock because it takes up less volume in the boot allowing for a better fit.

Narrow feet = thick sock as they do take up volume allowing for a better fit.

Good for tight boots

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 8, 2006

These are the only socks I wear with my ski boots (year round). I prefer a tighter boot fit and need something thin, but high quality. These socks will last for the long haul. I just bought a second pair, but have washed & worn my other pair at least 30 ski days with no signs of wear. If you like your ski boots to feel like a pair of Uggs, definitely go with a thicker sock - otherwise, these are great for anything with a performance fit.

If you like a performance fit (tight as hell) with your boots, this is the best sock out there. Perfect thickness along with wicking ability.
