(9 month's later) I have a Smartwool beanie and it's pretty deep. I'd say it depends on how much hair you're cramming under the hat more than the head size. If it's standard dude hair or even shorter then no problem. Smartwool hats are stretchy like their clothes--and nice and thick.

Comfortable, warm but would be nice if the little flap ties were long enough to tie together. Would make the ear flaps work better.
