After a long day of cutting turns in powder, zip up the Smartwool Men’s Routt Full-Zip Sweater before you begin your après-ski escapades. This heavyweight, boiled wool sweater pulls double duty as a jacket when you’re bar-hopping through town, and the breathable wool makes it wearable even on mild fall days. The two front zippered pockets keep your hands warm when you don’t want to tote a pair of gloves.
i bought this sweater about a week ago, and since it's hot here in Missouri, i haven't gotten a chance to seriously wear it around yet. and that's the only reason it's not a 5 star at this point. i have tried it on, and the sleeves are a bit long, but that was to be expected since i'm normally a large, and all they had was XL here. i'm 6'2" and 230 lbs, pretty muscular build. so if you're my size or smaller, the sleeves being an inch to long shouldn't be enough to deter you from saving 40% on it. i intended to wear it as a light jacket more than a sweater anyway, so it works out. it is very soft for it being a wool sweater. not as soft as the other smartwool products i own, but i think it's b/c of the way it's stitched this time. it is soft enough that my girlfriend stole it and cuddled up on the couch with it though, so i guess that says something.
The Smartwool Routt sweater is extremely comfortable (like all Smartwool products). It does not itch at all, and is so soft on your skin. It is cut long and rectangular and looks great on my long torso. I also love the simple, elegant style. Minus one star as it is dry-clean only.
This sweater/jacket is very soft. Maybe too soft because it pills like crazy. I'm carryin wool dingleberries all over! I wear this all the time though, I can't help it. It's more comfortable and as warm as my softshell, (except when its gustin)warmer than my ibex wool jacket and more pleasing on the bare skin. I'm 6'3" 190lbs. the large could be a little bit tighter on me, but the overall effect couldn't be much better.
I keep this sweater at the office when the temp gets colder. It sharp-looking and just warm enough, but it tends to pill quickly. The Arcteryx wool cardigans seem to be better quality in this respect.
This is a very nice sweater, although I question whether it's actually worth $100+. I'm not thin or lanky at all and I tried an XL, but I just can't see any size of this sweater fitting me. I'm almost always right in between a Large and an XL and I'm pretty sure neither would come close to fitting me properly. The sleeves on the XL were probably 4" too long. If you're physically fit, this sweater may fit you nicely. If not, good luck. I ended up returning it, but definitely wish I didn't have to.
Didn't feel that warm, wasn't form fitting at all (probably contributed to it not feeling that warm), over style wasn't great. I'm 6'4", 215lbs, got an XL, sleeves were long enough, but it just didn't feel right. I don't recommend.
