SmartWool Microweight Boxer Brief - Men's

Wool in the springtime? Yup, the Smartwool Men's Microweight Boxer is 100% merino wool. It might also be the most versatile pair of skivvies you'll ever have the privilege of pulling over your cheeks. The thin, lightweight merino knit wicks away moisture, naturally repels odor, and keeps your skin temperature regulated. Pull the Microweight Boxer on for bouldering, hiking, fly fishing, bird-watching, barbecuing, ultimate Frisbee…the list is endless, but don't take our word for it.

Bottom Line: These Smartwool boxers rock the house. The house inside your shorts, that is.

Can anyone tell me the inseam length on the microweights? They look very long in the photos. Also what is the rise like? It also looks very tall in the photos. I prefer the normal boxer brief design like the Icebreakers but they have gone down in quality. I can't find any every day wear merino boxer briefs that are worth a crap anymore. Howies is the only other option for regular style boxer briefs I have seen and they are not making them now.

They are long, which I prefer to prevent chaffing. Although long, I find they stay in place very well and don't ride up at all.

Keep in mind though, these will shrink a little bit in your first wash...

Yeah, the pictures make them look too big. Inseam length is 4". Rise is pretty standard, coming about 4" below my bellybutton. They're the best if you want a boxer brief.

Pretty Good.

Expensive, but very comfortable. I found that the seams were bothering me, but I started wearing them inside out, and the problem has been completely solved!

Over all, these are up there with some of the best boxer briefs, but I still prefer my Under Armour boxerjocks and even my Ex Officios over these.

Perfect

By:
August 18, 2009

I bought two pairs of the boxer briefs and one pair of the boxers four months ago before a trip to South America. The boxer briefs are perfect. They do not have any irritating seems. The size is perfect in that they fit close to the skin but not tight where they ride up in the legs and eventually give you a wedgie like other brands I've bought. The wool is also perfect--not hot, always feels fresh and no smell like capeline. I hand washed and line dried while in South America with no problems. As a comparison, the boxer model is also great--just fits looser and perfect when you feel like swinging a little more free that day. TK

Comfortable

By:
May 8, 2009

Very comfortable, but way over priced. That is the only reason they don't get 5 stars. Also, they seem to have odd sizing. I normally wear a L but based on other reviews ordered an XL which fits fine. Patagonia is almost as comfortable and more reasonably priced.

Update: Travelled to the Middle East in July and the airline lost my luggage. Wore the smart wool underwear for 3 days without any stink. What more could you ask for? Still overpriced but I am buying more.

best of the bunch

By:

i went on a mission to find the ultimate pair of wool underwear for hiking/camping style activities and these were it. few seams, the waist band is part of the garment, not a separate itchy band. the "hole" in front is probably the coolest ever invented for ease of access and general comfort. i haven't run in them for hours at a time, but i have worn them for days, and they are my favorite. four out of five just because nothing is perfect...

excellent

If they were less expensive they'd be the only underwear I wear, period. they're super comfortable, they wick very well, I think they're perfect. I always machine wash them in cold and hang dry them, which makes them less convenient for day-to-day use. I'm not even sure that I have to do that--I'm just afraid I'm going to ruin them and I don't spend the $$$ to replace them.

Fantastic First Layer

By:
May 3, 2009

These briefs feel like you're wearing air, keep upper thighs separated so there is no chafing, and wick moisture very well. Honestly, I was leery of paying this much for a first layer, but after using them for 9 days in 95-degree heat for 4- to 6-hour day hikes in Red Rock Canyon NV, I'm sold. I felt dry and comfortable all day, and the odor protection was fantastic.

Great Wicking, Bad Chafing

By:
April 24, 2008

I bought these to use for soccer tournaments (i'm a referee and sometimes will ref 8-10 hours a day for a tournament). These wick very, very well to keep the sweat off as much as possible. Although I have had a big problem with chafing where the stitching is, although I doubt I would get the chafing if I used them for lesser activities like hiking or for a 2 hour run, and i'm sure it doesn't help that I have a classic soccer butt(big due to leg strength training). Basically, for the price I don't recommend them if you intend to use them in a similar capacity that I do (intensive running for most of the day), otherwise they would probably be a good asset for hot, humid areas.
