The Smartwool Hiking Liner Crew can be worn as an ultra light sock on warm hikes or as a liner in cold weather. The ribbed cuff keeps it from sliding into your hiking boots or bunching at the bottom of your outer-layer sock. A flat-knit toe seam won't bother your toes while breaking trail. Smartwool designed the Hiking Liner Crew Socks to prevent blistering as well as odor—feel free to layer without fear of grossing out your camping buddies.
Bottom Line: The Smartwool Hiking Liner Crew is an innie AND an outie.
I always get cold feet really no matter what I have on for socks I use the smart wool extra heavy weights but I tend to sweat a little and then I loose the heat, I added these liners they work good my feet dont sweat and it keeps the good heat inside. They actually feel like dress socks
I've used Patagonia and REI liners up until now when I wanted to try these since all mine have holes by now. These are slightly heavier then the prior brands, and I welcomed it - still light, but less likely to rip after a season. Substantial. I highly recommend these liners, they performed on the trail --and they can also hold their own in the city if I'm in a rush and they're the only socks I can grab. I plan to get more.
Funny you ask, I have worn these as dress socks. It's nice because they have a lot of cushion and are much more comfortable than thin dress socks. I don't wear dress shoes that often, but when I do, I always put on dark Smartwool socks.
i wore one pair on a 7 day 75 mile backpacking trip in Sierra/King's Canyon (rinsed the trail dust out at the end of the day) and then climbed Rainier 2 days later with the same pair. they are the best liner sock i've ever worn. this sock is so comfortable i bought 4 more pair to wear at work.
These socks work out great for me. In the extreme heat and adverse conditions they really help prevent blisters. I am glad that I got them and will get more soon.
Would these sock liners be good for wearing under a thicker pair of socks when I'm going skiing? My extremeties really feel the cold when I'm in the snow
Wicking moisture is the primary purpose of a sock liner. These would work better for skiing than hiking as long as they stayed dry. You would certainly gain extra warmth over a polypro or silk liner.
These socks rode down my shins when I wore them with boots. They are more scratchy than I was expecting/hoping but not too bad. I would not want to use these as a liner b/c they are scratchy.
these are great to have on extended trips. If you wear these inside of your regular smartwools, you won't get as much sweat and grime on the full sized pair making them last longer without washing. With the liners, you can wash them in a stream and they will dry much faster than the regular socks.
Not only that, but the black ones make great dress socks as well.
What can you really say about a sock? It's comfortable under my hiking socks, much moreso that a thin poylester liner (never tried silk). It wicks well. Being merino, it doesn't get smelly, which along with the solid black color make it a great travel sock.
Great when backpacking, I wore them for 5 days straight (washed in rivers) on a recent backpacking trip. They stayed clean and odor free, and dried fast when I washed them. The cushioning is nice too. Recommended!
These socks are really good. They feel great, stays in place and doesn't smell after a whole day walking in running shoes. A big recommandation from here!
They did exactly what they were supposed to. Kept my feet dry, warm and stink free. I wore them under thicker hiking socks for 4 days on the Inca Trail
I bought these socks to pair with the light weight Smart Wool Phd hiking socks for a 20 mile backpacking trip in Escalante. The socks were great no blisters and wicked moisture as you would expect from a Smart Wool product. Highly recommended.
Inside my snug, waterproof hiking shoes, these socks are just about perfect. They're lightweight, soft, never overly warm, they stay in place without being too snug, they don't bunch up or bind anywhere and they keep my feet perfectly dry. The only other thing I could wish for is that they self-laundered!
I wear these as a light hiking sock and a liner for my ski boots. I purchased one pair a year ago and went back for one more. Also, these seem to be a little more durable than other wool blend socks I've had in the past. The heels and the front of the soles have remained intact. PS. Don't tell anyone but I wore these to my cousins wedding beneath a very expensive rental tux. I danced the night away and they were much more comfortable than a typical dress sock.
This sock is very comfortable and fits snug around your foot. The sock helps wick away moisture and helps keep the stink down. Ive worn these socks both as a liner and alone they work great either way.
