Tread lightly with the Hiking Light Sock from SmartWool. Lightweight is the mantra of many hikers. The new Hiking Light sock from SmartWool follows that dogma with an impressive blend of features woven into a thin sock. Support and comfort are built in for mile after mile of quick, blister-free hiking. Wool is a natural choice for hiking socks do to its ability to resist moisture and odors. Durable and soft Merino wool is used to make these socks a perfect trail companion.
My husband is so hard to please, didn't want me to order them, but now is wearing only these socks, ha ha ha, I was right, and he was wrong! Should have ordered more than three pairs. He wears a size 10 1/2 shoe, and likes the xl better than the large size I bought to compare sizes. Men!!!
I am trying to decide which sock would be best for me. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these liners and the regular SmartWool Hiking Crew Sock?
They're pricey for a reason! There doesn't seem like there would be a lot of design in a sock but once you put on a pair of these, your ol' Hanes will feel like 1500's technology! They're super comfortable, regulate the temperature of feet, and wick away moisture to keep blisters at bay. Oh yeah and they will out last any sock in your drawer! WARNING - You'll find yourself reaching for these far more often than your old cotton socks - Better by 8 pairs!!
I have just started walking trails and light hiking and am getting serious about what I wear in socks and shoes. If my shoe size runs between 11 1/2 and 12, which size in socks should I get, large or extra large? Thanks for your help.
Thanks Mike, I didn't know whether to go with the highest end of the large size and hope they stretch if too tight, or the lowest end of the extra large size and hope they shrink if too large.
Great for a fall or early winter hike. I usually bring these with as my "start up" socks on multi-day winter socks. Then switch to the warmer ones when I get to colder temps.
I bought these socks because i needed something to wear in my combat boots that wicked moisture. Being that i am in iraq, thats kind of important. The socks fit well, snug but not too tight and form to your foot. Most importantly they grip the sole well and keep my feet dryer than they otherwise would.
For the price i would recommend getting something local, but if you dont mind paying for the shipping, these are good socks!
This sock is a great sock, especially for long distance. Unlike most socks, you can wear it for days on end without it getting hard. There is enough padding, but not too much, and they are soft and comfortable. The only one downfall is sometimes my feet got a little hot in them.
I have several smart wool socks from the extra heavyweight to the thin liners . This weight I use everyday for general use once you try these you wont ever buy a standard sock. Can be wron a few times before you wash because of the anti bacterial wool and dries on its own.
What can you say about a sock that does its job in wet boots? You don't notice your feet when portaging in the BWCA until they are cold and blisted and you are having pain while walking. Non of that happened with these socks - so the best compliment I can give them is that my feet never knew they were on. Without them, as we like to say in the South, "my dawgs would have been barking."
Great quality and are pretty tough. Its best to wash them before the first wear they tend to shed a lot of fuzz. They become a bit uncomfortable if your feet get sweaty.
I have a lower cut (read older) version of these and they are great. They work for winter running and for hiking with a 30 lb. pack. They are not a liner sock, at least in my experience. Put a lightweight liner underneath and they work really well for short to midrange backpack trips.
These are the socks that got me hooked on Smartwool. Two pair made it through 8mos of daily wear (many times for multiple days) and still had enough life for several shorter hikes. Great boot socks.
I bought four pairs of these for an extended trip to boston. These were AMAZING. They kept my feet incredibly warm, and I was only wearing loafers most of the time. At no point were my feet cold, sweaty, or (excessively) smelly. Not all that many socks can do that.
Not really. I use them alone or with running socks (Defeet or ultimax) underneath as liners. These socks are lighter than other smartwools, but still a wool sock and your feet will get really hot if you double up on wool.
These are by far the most comfortable hiking socks I have ever owned. Just bought a bunch more. Smooth contour under foot with subtle support around arch. Trail walk with Merrell Walkers or hiking with LaSportiva boots- comfort is enhanced. Warm weather wicking is excellent. have not tried in cold yet. Have heavier weight smartwool for that.
I only needed one pair of smart wool socks to realize that it is worth it for hiking! They are great quality and I have worn them in both warm and cold weather. These socks are a little heavier than the adrenaline socks, but still worked great! I would probably go with the adrenaline socks for warmer hiking as they are a bit thinner.
"The" sock for outdoor activities. Absorbs moisture. Cushions and protects. Durable. Have hiked many miles without liners, never had a blister... Use mine year-round, warm in the winter, comfy in the summer...
i only wear smartwool and own two pair of these incredible socks. when they say light, however, they really do mean light. not too much warmth is provided by this thin ones, yet they last forever. even if you soak your entire shoe or book in water, you feet will still not blister!!! still super comfy!
These are nice socks. They fit my foot perfectly. I bought the "light" version, but they are actually quite warm. Too warm to wear at work (indoor wearing sandals), but very nice outdoor. I like the green color, all other "outdoor" socks tend to be grey or brown.
Among two other experienced hikers and 15 backpacking miles later, I came home with 1 real blister, about 5-6 less than everyone else. Good socks, I hope they last - they'll see more action soon.
I wore the summer version of these sox while walking part of the Camino in Spain - on the advice of a friend. Incredible - no blisters, comfy feet all the way! So of course now I'm wearing these for my winter walks - buy them now!!!
Have her buy these instead. Still love ya Grammy! But these truely are the best socks that I've ever found. Everyone else has said it all. I have used these on several continents and they are THE ONLY socks I use. You will not be disappointed. And for my brothers (and sisters) in service they work great inside 'issue' footwear too.
SmartWool is a great company, they are the industry standard for wool socks. These are a must have for your gear arsenal. You can wear them many times before they work up a smelly funk and even then it is not too harsh. My only complaint is that the high length sometimes becomes uncomfortable, but that might be because I wear sandals most of the year.
These socks are my favorite for just about every activity with the excpetion of cycling. They feel great, are extremely durable, and the color selection is very nice. I wear these everyday even if I'm not actually doing anything athletic. An added benefit is that they block odor very effectively, and you can definitely wear them for a few days before they start to smell - or at least I can.
I hadn't hiked for about a year and then took a 9-mile hike in these socks. My feet were comfortable with absolutely no trace of blisters. The real test was at the end when I went wading in a stream, put my wet feet back into the socks, and hiked another 2 miles. It didn't even feel like my feet had ever been wet. When this sock claims to wick moisture, it does. I'm impressed. They're definitely worth the $15. (PS- Pay attention to the size chart; it's pretty accurate.)
I was skeptical at first but I dove in and purchased four pair. I wore those for 2.5 yearsyeah gross I know. I summited 19 peaks with them and took them all over the place. Never one hole, no stink, never too hot, too cold, and they dry quickly in the sun. I now own 15 pair of various SmartWool socks. These socks are solid.
These socks are very warm. They go great combined with a pair of ski socks for skiing in colder weather. They also are great everyday socks in the winter.
I have never owned a pair longer or have taken such good care of socks as I have these. I treat them how they treat me. Great for warm day hikes. These have seen a lot of use and abuse. Im getting another pair because the pair I have is so great!!
