Hit the trail hard when you wear the SmartWool Adrenaline Light Crew Sock. If your socks were cars, the Adrenaline would be a Lamborghini and regular old hiking socks a Ford Fiesta. Built for performance, these socks feature the SmartWool's SmartFit system, which ensures these won't bunch or wrinkle. They have a bit more cushioning than a running sock, which makes them ideal for trail running's rockier conditions. Wool is excellent at keeping your feet dry, comfortable, and odor-free. The nylon adds durability and the spandex provides a snug fit and stretchability.
Bottom Line: Outfitted in the SmartWool Adrenaline Light Crew Sock, your happy feet will cruise along the trail.
These socks are my favourite! I've got these ones and bought the women's version, size large, on SAC. I thought they would be the same fit, but the woman's version is definitely narrower (go figure). But for the price on SAC I'd buy them again. The woman's just don't slide on quite as easily, but we are talking socks here, so it's not a big deal. The unisex are ultra plush, even after 1.5 years of weekly wear. I expect them to last at least 4 years for daily wear. If you are backpacking guide I'd be surprised if they didn't last at least two seasons.
Brought these guys with me camping for 7 days in the backwoods. They were wonderful! Not too warm, not too cold. My plan was for them to be used for camping only, but somehow I keep finding excuses to wear them around the house. ;)
I purchased these to use with the paddock boots I ride horses in, and they have been very comfortable. Perfect height for corresponding boots, and they haven't slipped down. They've handled sweat well, but in dampness from rain, they stayed damp for a long time. They are still quite comfortable though.
Wool socks are all about staying warm regardless if they are warm or dry. They are a natural fiber and as such they will not dry as quickly as synthetics. However, you enjoy retained warmth from SmartWool in wet conditions as a trade off.
The stacks fell down easier than the thicker models. If you wear 8-10" boots and you need them to stay up you might find it annoying how they droop during the day. If you are wearing shoes... no biggie. Otherwise fantastic. Exactly what I expect from Smartwool socks. Comfortable and dry-feeling all day long.
These socks look and feel great! They're ideal for a variety of conditions and best of all, they have a superior resistance to odor and wetness. Just make sure you wash them inside out, let them air dry and they should last you a long time.
A recent guest to my inn had never heard of Smartwool...he owns an inn on Corfu Island in Greece

...the rest of us all had our Smartwool on...so, we hooked up with Backcountry and got him a pair while he was visiting us on the Oregon coast...we think that might have made his whole trip!!!
Thanks Backcountry...you will hear from us again...in fact, you already have!
So versatile. Literally use em for hiking, running, skiing, and wearing to the office. Unbelievable quality and performance. Never buying another brand based on price.
These are great socks. I have completely switched to merino/nylon socks for every application. These are amazing just enough cushion without being "thick". The wool regulates temp and conducts moisture away from the skin.
I first tried Smartwool socks for my vacation to Kodiak last year. Now all my socks are Smartwool, with exception for a few Injini socks that fit in my Vibram Five Finger shoes. These socks stay put, breathe so well, and hold no odor.... unless you're curious like me and test their odor resistance. I found that after 96 hours of nonstop use, i could faintly smell foot odor. I've owned many synthetic socks, but those days are over. From sub-freezing temps, to 75 degrees, my feet stay happy in these socks.
I've worn these for awhile now and tried them against the Adrenaline PHD and I knew immediately when I tried them on that the light hikers were better. They feel a lot more supportive and have the right amount of cushion - not to much and not too little. They breath excellent and retain their snug fit! I've bought 5 more pair since.
It is worth it to have great hiking socks like these--smart wool has got it down! I love these because they are thinner than other "light hikers" but are still great quality. I wear them in both the mountains and the desert. My feet stay dry and even though they are a little warmer in the heat, I don't get blisters and my feet feel better than cotton socks by far! I would recommend spending the money and getting good socks if you are an avid outdoorsman. No more cotton for me! The great thing also is you can wear them for days and your feet or socks don't stink. You only need one pair for a week long trip. I bought them for all my family members.
This in my opinion is the better one of them all. I have tried the PHD's and the Adrenaline light hiking is the most comfortable, stays in place, and stays dry. Never received blisters.
these aren't the most lightweight socks but cushy, wicking, and very comfortable. The fit is perfect, no riding, no extra room, just supporting comfort.
Bought them for my son, a young Marine, spending lots of time in field training and hiking many miles before he is deployed in a couple of weeks. He just got home for Thanksgiving and one of the first things he told me is how well the socks worked for him especially without having the luxuries of showers, laundry, etc. I will be buying more and putting them in his care packages!
I think at this point I might try hiking in something else, but only to prove again why I switched to smartwool, the right mix of synthetic and wool seems to give the benefits of both, they are also really comfortable, staying in place without bunching up. If I were to complain about anything it's that after 2 years they can start to rough up in areas, but on the other hand they last through at least two years of backpacking and hikes.
Comfortable and warm, I use them for hiking 14ers and everything else, they don't have a ton of cushion though so if you are into that you might want something a little heavier.
I am on my feet in the operating theater 12-14 hours every day. Smartwool socks are the best of many brands I have tried in regards to breathability, comfort and durability. After such great success with them at work I now wear them exclusively in my outdoor pursuits between Alaska and Florida and have never been disappointed.
I loved this pair of socks. Went with the large for my size 12 and it worked good. Don't try to dry them out fast by the fire though... Mine got a little to toasty:( Not real big on spending $16 for a pair of socks, but believe these are worth it!
