Silvretta Silvretta Pure Performance Ski Binding - 2007
The Silvretta Pure Performance is the only step-in AT binding that can boast a feathery sub-three-pound-per-pair weight factor. If the light weight of Dynafit bindings make you horny, but the tricky manual engage / release factor leaves you cold, Silvretta has your answer. The Pure Performance uses a pivoting rail system instead of a toe-pin tour mode, but with hollow carbon tubes in place of aluminum to keep the scale (and you) from sweating. Of course, since touring is only half ascent, a secure latch locks your boot heel to the ski when you want to point it back down. Due to its light materials, the Pure Performance is not as huck-worthy or resort-friendly as more ‘freeride-oriented’ touring setups, but it's strong enough for season after season of untouched backcountry tracks.
Bottom Line: Step-in convenience, step-on-air weight.
