Silvretta 500 LSV Alpine Touring Binding - 2004

The Silvretta 500 LSV Alpine Touring Binding is a lightweight binding with safety and comfort in mind. An ergonomic pivot point is mounted further back than most Randonee bindings for a more natural stride, and the binding is easily opened by hand, pole, or a dextrous boot. The Silvretta features a smooth front and side release, both of which are independent of the boot sole so that you get a predictable, safe release unaffected by the snow and gunk you've built up under your boot. Two climbing bars give you the boost you need to tackle steep ascents. Silvretta prefers to spend their time and money on making and testing bindings. See for yourself why those in the know choose Silvretta.

Bottom Line: The mountains are waiting, get on it.

Silvretta 500 bindings

By:
December 12, 2005

I mounted the bindings on Alpina Cross Terrains. I have been using them to get access to places in half the time it would take me in snowshoes. Binding works really well even with my leather Makalus. Snow (wet) often packs in between the binding and the ski making it necessary to clean the binding.

I want to use mountaineering boots and Karhu 10th mountain skis to do some alpine touring. What other bindings will do what the Silvretta 500s will?

It climbs and skis, but remember its purpose

The Silvretta 500 is an excellent mountaineering binding that can do occasional alpine duty. However, because of a somewhat dubious release mechanism for slow twisting falls and stiffness/durability issues, it should not be used routinely as an AT binding. For touring or mountaineering, it climbs effectively at all heel positions and should be used with the provided leash. The optional brake has limited application; the optional crampon is easy to install and very effective in icy terrain. For safety with leather boots, use the lowest release setting needed for retention under rigorous climbing conditions.
