Sigg Lifestyle Water Bottle - Screw Top - 1.0L

Perhaps you're sick of your boring-looking plastic water bottle that makes water taste like yesterday's fruit punch and sick of worrying about stuff leaching into your water. Grab Sigg's Lifestyle 1.0L Screw Top Bottle. Sigg's non-leaching, BPA-free interior lining combats residue buildup, so flavors won't stay behind, even if your bottle sits out in the sun all afternoon. Sigg extruded this decorative bottle out of a single piece of aluminum, so it's rugged and crack-resistant, though it might ding if dropped (dents don't crack or harm the interior lining).

  • The Simply Eco-One Step At A Time version comes with a sipping sport top

Bottom Line: Leave boring, plasticy bottles in the dust.

So this water bottle is supposed to me good for you, but I have to admit it kind of freaks me out. Sometimes my water has a metallic taste and the bottle dents easily. Still a fan of the Nalgene.

What kind of top does the "Simply Eco Logical - One step at A Time" come with? How come the picture shows sports top, not the ring kind like other bottles? Why is it the only one different?

Nope. I just ordered 2, and they come in with the sports top, NOT the screw. For backcountry staff, check out order#9232490. The customer service personally assured me that the top is screw, but now I'm looking at the very 2 sports top as I'm typing this. So I guess you've got the right image all along. But no big deal, backcountry does more good to me than harm so I remain your loyal customer.

All these bottles come with the ring style "screw top".

The Simply Eco Logical - One step at A Time photo with the "sport top" is wrong. This bottle is shown accurately under the "detailed views".

The infamous sigg

By:
February 27, 2009

Yes they cost a lot. Yes they are trendy. Yes they dent. Most important they are good quality. I have had juice and tea in it and have no residual taste. My nalgene cannot do that. A lot of people hate them for being trendy, but contrary to what some of them say they are lighter than a nalgene (not that it matters). Also aluminum DOES NOT rust when it is dented. Don't know where that one came from. I have also heard concerns about how aluminum can leech dangerous chemicals into water. That is why sigg coats the inside of the bottles with a completely inert polymer.
Anyway, one of my favorite things about it is now that I spent that money on a nice bottle, I want to use it. All the time. I drink more water, less soft drinks, and waste far less bottles and cans. Dare I say this bottle has saved me money. Whether or not they are in vougue in the future, I hope sigg keeps making the best quality bottles money can buy.

I own a few Sigg water bottles and I personally think there is no reason to buy any other brand, they are perfect. You rarely see a bad review for Sigg, and after only a minute of looking I see multiple people unsatisfied with their Gaiam bottles, mostly dealing with difficulty with cap, and leaking. Gaiam makes so many different products, unlike Sigg, who specializes in this field. Not to mention that Sigg has many different designs to best suit your style and personality. Spends the few extra dollars, and buy quality.

Great until...

By:
May 29, 2008

I like the function of the bottle, the design, and the fact it does not leak. However, I took two brand new bottles on a recent backpacking trip to Ontario and performed a head-to-head comparison (Sigg 1.0L vs. the CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve 1.0L) and found the CamelBak still looks new while the Sigg shows incredible surface wear from the inevitable drops onto rocks and use typical to the outdoors. The utility of the bottle is also limited because of the necessity to transfer water from a nalgene or CamelBak bottle to the Sigg bottle when filtering water with an MSR filtration system. Finally, I give the bottle a high rating because I feel that the overall function of the Sigg bottle has not been altered (according to the Sigg website the bottle liner is resilient to dents etc. and will not peel), it looks great, and the must-have factor is still seemingly high, BUT I would not purchase another Sigg bottle for use in the outdoors and my bottle may be relegated to my office.

Sigg or Nalgene

By:
April 23, 2009

Like most folks who like it outside, I've had both Sigg and Nalgene in my bag. I've settled on the Sigg. It's durable - Empty drop tests don't mean a whole lot. Dropped with the mass and non compressable nature of water the Nalgene bottle doesn't survive. The Sigg suffers large deformation, but you don't lose all your water if you happen to drop you pack off the ledge or off the top of a thrid world bus.
If you're a weight weenie, the Sigg is lighter. On my scale the Sigg is 141 grams verses the 175 gram heft of the Nalgene.
True the top is not attached with a lanyard, but I have yet to lose mine. My trick is stick my finger through the hole and wear the top like a ring while I am drinking. Reminds me of olf aunt Mabel's big gawty rings.
I've got a little .4L Sigg that I carry Rum around in. I recently washed it out and filled it with water. The bottle had no residuel run taste.
Bottle line - after using both, I'm sold on Sigg.

So I like the bottle. I like not having to worry about BPA. I like hearing a metallic *ching* when I put it down on the table. But...I hate how I can't fit ice cubes (or at least my freezer's ice cubes) through the neck. Thats the only advantage my Nalg has over this bottle.

Great bottle ... Wish it was a bit more durable

By:
September 10, 2008

I absolutely love having these Sigg water bottles. They are very handy and working around computers all day, its nice to be able to keep my drink on my desk rather then at my feet. With this bottle I know that I am guaranteed a great seal that wont fail on me. The only down side with this aluminum water bottle is its durability. These bottles dent extremely easily so be aware that if you drop them, bump them, or tip them over they do run the risk of denting.

My fiance bought this for me as a christmas present and I use it every day. I take it to work, the rock gym, and when Im lucky enough to get outside. Someone said its fragile, but mine has been bomber. I have a little dink from a far drop but it still works great. It keeps the temperature well and I have used it more than enough to warrant the price and will use it for years to come. I recommend. Big time.

Fragile

By:
November 10, 2008

Aircraft grade aluminum is really thin. I've dented two of these bottles, one of them to the point of unusability. I'm used to Nalgenes, but these seemed really fragile and dentable to me. The 2nd bottle dented just from being dropped onto the floor of the shelter.

I have a Sigg bottle with me nearly always. I own two 1.0L bottles, and they've served me so well that I buy them for gifts. Yes, they're slightly more prone to denting than a Nalgene, but they also have qualities that a Nalgene doesn't. The aluminum keeps hot liquids hot longer, and cold liquids cold longer. It can be placed near the fire for re-heats. I probably wouldn't boil drinking water in it, but I wouldn't be too afraid of putting freshly-boiled water in there. Might not be everyone's favorite bottle, but it suits me. Plus, the dents add character.

Granted, this bottle won't fit an ice cube but it does a great job holding some serious BPA-free water. I use it at work and so temperature is less of an issue for me. It does dent if you drop it or happen to hit your co-worker in the noggin with it but the water inside stays tasting exactly as it should...like water. 'Nuff said.

Pretty nice bottle

By:
June 9, 2008

I purchased this bottle only to find that it was too large to fit into my cupholder of my truck. Furhermore, you cannot fit ice cubes into it because the spout is too narrow. On the other hand, I find it perfect for the office where the large diameter is not an issue. I purchased the 0.6L bottle to solve my problems in the vehicle.
Bottom line: I LOVE the concept of a re-usable bottle that doesn't alter the taste of the water or leach chemicals into it, but I found the 0.6L better suited to where I live my life.

Love my Sigg

By:
May 12, 2009

I switched to the aluminum bottle because of the BPA that is in plastic bottles that leaches harmful chemicals. As a nurse I have researched it and it IS real. I have tried to eliminate BPA in my drinking bottles. These bottles are light weight, cool down liquids fast in the fridge and are stylish. I have gotten dents in them from dropping them, but they are durable and it does not affect the usage of the bottle. I am also loving that it doesn't leave any residual taste from having liquids other than water in them. I don't have to wash it very often! My only qualm is that the mouth is not wide enough to put ice in unless it is small or crushed. I put in the fridge overnight and it stays cool at work for hours, but as the weather gets warmer it does warm the liquid faster. I would recommend switching you nalgene for this bottle if you care about your health!

By: Backcountry.com Employee

I can't give this five stars because it is a pain to pack this around and it does dent easily. So, I probably wouldn't pack this around too much. I like it just for a jug to take to work. I have juice, milk, and whatever else in this and the smell/taste are gone with a simple rinse. That's why I think it is so great. It is also nice that it is BPA free, but there are a lot of other good BPA free options out there if you care.

I love these bottles, as well as the Klean Kanteens. The upside to the Sigg's in my opinion, is the mouth and top. That indentation just below the mouth is where our lip goes, and makes for spill free drinking. This is a pretty small thing, but it actually makes a difference day to day.

With all the recent BPA controversy, I tossed my Nalgenes and tried one of these. I am really impressed. The perk is filling it up and putting it in the fridge, it cools down really fast and keeps liquids cooler longer. The same is true if left in the sun too though. Not what I thought

By:
June 1, 2009

I love the look - so much so that I bought one for my mom, mother-in-law, and stepmom for Mother's Day too. But we are all in agreement that we are disappointed that the opening is too small for anything but crushed ice. I have an ice maker with small ice but not even that ice is not small enough for the opening unless I push every piece of ice in the right direction and shove it down the hole which franky, I'm not going to do! Further, while my refrigerator ice maker makes crushed ice, the bottle is too tall for my ice maker opening so now I'm back to putting the crushed ice in another container and transferring the ice into the bottle manually.

Also, we have all noticed that the bottles loses its temperature very quickly. Maybe this is because of the amount that it sweats. If I fill my bottle and chill it overnight to drink during and after my yoga class, it not only sweats on the floor of my class but halfway through my class - around the 40 minute mark from when I took it out of the refrigerator - my water is room temperature.

I'm not giving up on Sigg though. I think I was drawn to the pretty design when choosing one and am hoping there is another Sigg out there with a bigger opening and less condensation.

Leaches aluminum?

By:
June 12, 2008

The Sigg is undoubtedly a leader in the aluminum bottle world, but the 1.0L bottle does suffer from a few design flaws. As mentioned in another review, it does NOT fit in the cup holder in my car and the color on the blue maha that i received was streaky - which looked defective. On the positive side, the water tastes GREAT. However, there is a question of the leaching of aluminum into the water when using the Sigg to tote acidic drinks (juice, lemon etc.) and exposing the bottle to higher temperatures (outdoors, the car - in the sun?). I would like to see more safety testing on these aluminum/coated bottles. One alternative, the Laken brand bottle, does have test results on its website, and touts its own bottle as superior to the Sigg - with no leaching and with a mouth wide enough for ice cubes. They do warn against freezing the bottle or using it for hot liquids.

go with nalgene. sure these look hip and fun, but they are heavy, they dent, and they don't pack very well. and when they dent, they look like garbage and start to rust. contrary to nicole's review, the aluminum is a fantastic heat conductor, meaning your liquids match the outside temperature very quickly.
