Sierra Designs Velox 3 Ultralight Tent 3-Person 3-Season - 2008

Sierra Designs put their knowhow to the test and made the Velox 3 Ultralight Tent at a weight of five pounds flat. Split between you and your two buddies, that's less weight than bivy sacks. This isn't some featureless single-wall tent either. The Velox 3 Ultralight Tent includes double 9sq foot vestibules and two doors. Sierra Designs added plenty of internal pockets to keep your gear organized as well. You're going to have to dig pretty deep to come up with a reason not to bring this tent on your next ultralight trip.

Bottom Line: Three-person shelter with two-person weight.

Also, it compacts a lot more if you get the Sierra Designs Taquito. Man, that thing's amazing. It's essentially just a convenient cinch sac for it. No meticulous folding or rolling. Just kind of throw it in, cinch it down and go. Much smaller than you could get on your own.

I really love this tent. I just got it the other day and took it out this weekend. It's super lite for how large it is and the double doors rock.. It kept the rain out just fine and the foot print works well. It's a great tent for the price and the size for sure. You should get a compression sack for it if you get the tent. Super easy to set up and clean out.

Actually, it's a hybrid tent, with part of it being a single wall. As for the mist/water getting in, I'm not sure...

It's not a single wall. The tent is mesh, which is not waterproof at all, and the fly is waterproof and windproof but not as breathable (obviously) as mesh. You might get a little condensation on the underside of the fly during rain or cold nights, but as long as the tent is set up properly and the fly doesn't touch the tent fabric, it shouldn't drip.

I bought both the Velox 2 and 3 before choosing. Amazingly, despite it's light weight, it is actually a 3 person tent, not a it's-called-3-but-really-for-two like usual. It feels twice as big as the two. Velox 2 is a close two person, but the 3 is a spacious 3 person with tons of ventilation, dual vesitibules entrances, super long (I'm 6'1 and I have tons of room).

I'm actually returning it and keeping the 2, but only because I have no need for an actual 3 person tent.
