Sierra Designs Electron RC 2 - 2-Person 3-SeasonTent - 2008
The Sierra Designs Electron RC 2 - 2-Person 3-SeasonTent is a deluxe camping accommodation. The Electron comes with its footprint, a portable attic, and a coffee sling. With just one click, you've got your entire tent set-up. Two doors, each with a roomy vestibule give each of you plenty of storage space and room to move. The portable attic and internal gear pockets provide even more storage space and organization. If you can't stand being crammed into a tiny tent, and don't mind carrying a few extra ounces, you'll love the luxury of the Electron.
Bottom Line: Get everything you need for a sweet camping set-up in one fell swoop with the Electron RC 2 Tent.
This tent has a simple and very functional design. It has plenty of space for two. The two doors make it easy for each person the get in and out. The huge vestibules are great for keeping all your gear dry. The tent is well ventilated. It has kept me dry in a couple rain showers. I would definitely recommend this tent to anyone. It's a little on the heavy side for backpacking, but the extra weight is worth it.
I swear by Sierra Designs tents. My old Sierra Designs Tent held up for over 10 hard years of abuse. I finally broke down and got a new one last year: the Electron. I've got to say, this is an unbelievable piece of gear. Double doors with 2 vestibules to keep gear dry and close, 360 degree open air, roomy, sharp design! I love it. It is a little on the heavier side, but I've used this both backpacking and bicycle touring without any problems.
Being a Chemistry student I naturally had to buy a tent named the electron. Turns out it actually was a good tent, too! I have the older version (the one with just two 10ft vestibules - which have always provided plenty of room for us anyways) from about 2 years ago and it has never failed me. SD thought it out with this tent: good zippers, very solid construction that holds up well, anti-mold impregnated walls, great size, and keeps dry! Been through plenty of bad weather with it from wind to torrents of rain to snow. This past week I could see the ripples of water running under my vestibule as it poured but we were dry all night - no problems. Stake it out tight and guy out the sides and your golden. Can have it set up in a flash if you roll it up with a bit of thought, and the "extra" weight is well worth the added durability in my opinion. Our club tents (MSR Hubba Hubba's) have seen less action and show far more wear than my electron.
Not sure if the extra 4ft and "window" is necessary or worth the weight (if there is any - and your decision), but this new version's older brother was a winner for sure.
Great tent! I wish it was lighter, but what the heck. It has room and the double doors-double vestibule thing is terrific - especially when my wife has to pee in the middle of the night. Never a condensation problem, never a leak. The zippers on the rain fly get hung up once in a while, but that is about it.
This is my first real tent purchase so I am not sure I'm an expert. However, I did take a look at many many tent designs and for my needs this suited me fine. Easy to setup by yourself, two people makes it even easier. Very high quality construction and surprisingly did not get a single puncture in the rocky area we pitched it in. Easy to compress and just big enough for me, my wife, and our baby. I can see getting a bigger tent in the future as our little guy grows up, however. We broke it in up in Prosser Recreational Park near Tahoe and we had a huge fog bank roll in the first two nights, but no dew formed in the tent, which was a pleasant surprise.
