SealLine Urban Backpack - 2009

The crew at SealLine all live near Seattle, so they understand what a rainy commute feel like. That’s why they made the Urban Backpack. This totally waterproof backpack uses river-bag technology to keep your laptop, iPhone, and all the other daily necessities bone dry even if you ride through a torrential downpour. PVC-free double-coated nylon fabric provides plenty of durability to handle the daily grind, and SealLine added a comfortable molded back panel to help you stay comfortable as you pedal through traffic.

Bottom Line: Ready for the rain.

Cascade Designs makes an Urban Backpack Organizer that fits on the plastic framesheet inside the pack. You can see it here: http://cascadedesigns.com/sealline/urban/urban-backpack-organizer/product. It allows the user to keep small stuff that would rattle around the bag more organized like pens and pencils, small notebooks, media, and keys. It's super easy to access inside the bag and makes the Urban Backpack much more versatile.

This pack is awesome! It's incredibly durable (600D welded fabric), simple, easy to open and close, and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Seal line urban pack, small

By:
October 29, 2009

I commute from Utah valley up to Sundance by bike 3 to 4 days a week. I can't stand messengera bags, digging into your neck, flopping around (I've tried timbik 2, bagaboo, chrome and the list goes on). so I would drive my work clothes up for the week. I bought the urban just for the heck of it because it looked cool. It works excellent while riding. I have loaded it up and it doesn't dig into my neck or flop around when standing up to sprint. There are also no worries when getting caught in the rain. Bottom line: excellent construction, very comfortable, and I don't mind packing clothes every day.

Have any small-framed people out there have used the small version

Have any small-framed people out there have used the small version of this backpack? If so, does it feel clunky? Does it ride up on your shoulders when you are on your bike?I'm about 5'2" with a narrow frame. Currently I used a rinky-dink 15" backpack which fits me awesomely but cannot hold enough. I am nervous about comfort with a larger size.Any tips greatly appreciated...

The length of the small Urban Backpack is 20" (measured mine this morning) when rolled up. I'm 5'10" so I can't speak of how it fits someone shorter, but it isn't a typical backpack requiring a wastebelt (although it does have a 1" piece of webbing used as a wastebelt, but can be removed). The newer version has a very comfortable yoke and shoulder straps, along with a solid frame make this a very comfortable pack to carry. I like the look of the pack and how easy it is to access stuff in and out (being fully waterproof is a bonus). The construction is top notch, the best I've ever seen in terms of clean lines and solid welds. My recommendation if your still concerned is order it and then if it doesn't fit, backcountry will take it back. Fit is very important...

Day hike with the Seal Line waterproof backpack

By:
May 25, 2009

This is the small Urban Backpack which is just a bit large for my 7 year old son. The pack is waterproof, and best suited for urban environments (like going to school or work). It worked well on our day hike and easily held two rain coats, a lunch box, and camera. This would be a great pack for carrying a laptop and office work--especially if you find yourself commuting to work in the rain. This is an expensive pack, even for the small version--but it is waterproof and that (for me) is worth the extra cost. The harness is very comfortable and suited for adults, with enough adjustment range to fit a child in the 8-10 year old size range.
