Scarpa Thunder Climbing Shoe

Custom fit, a comfortable toe box, and all-around performance have made the Thunder Scarpa's best-selling climbing shoe. Lacing goes all the way down to the toes so you can customize the fit to the shape of your foot. An army of perforation in the suede upper helps your dogs breathe and keeps them sweat free. A medium flex means you can use this shoe on a broad range of climbs, and for a variety of difficulty levels, whether you're trad or sport climbing. Special Vibram XSGrip is grabbier than a five-year old kid under a freshly-busted piñata, so get into the Scarpa Thunder Shoes and climb.

Bottom Line: So vented, you can almost hear them breathing.

I love these!

Comfy and responsive. Bit baggy around the heel, so not great for extreme heel hooking, but decent enough for usual heel hooking.

Had intended to buy something more aggressive, but am very glad I didn't.

I must say that I love the fit and feel of my Scarpa Thunder's. This is my second set, when I wear these out, I will buy them again. They fit my feet tight (when new), but are comfortable wearing for many hours. Toward the end of the life of my first pair they did start to stretch out creating some toe role, so I decided not too re-sole them and just buy new ones. I got a great price from Backcountry, almost cheaper then re-soling anyway and they were at my door in a few days.

Write your question here...I tried on a pair of la sportivas at the store. Size 43 fits me perfect. Is the Scarpa sizing similar to the la sportiva?

Jeremy, it depends on the model of shoe. My Thunders are size 43.5 and fit just about exactly like my 43.5 la Sportiva Mythos. However, I very comfortably wear a 42 in Sportiva Cobras.

Ive been using this shoe in the gym and outdoors for the past 6 months and they are a great shoes and are really good for bouldering. They are extremely comfortable, they have a great toe box, and the rubber lasts pretty long and holds nicely.

Best pair of climbing shoes i have ever had. Bought them a size small and they were a bit tight but were great climbing. One full day of climbing and the insides of the shoes were completely worn in, great shoes, highly recommended.

I must have tried on 10 pairs in the store. These were the most comfortable and have remained great after a whole lot of bouldering.

not worth the $$$

By:
January 16, 2009

these are way too expensive for the shoe. these shoes are not really good for any specific thing -- which is NOT what an experienced climber usually goes for... i mean, if you are a boulderer, these shoes are too stiff, and not downturned at all. on the other hand, they are not comfortable or stiff enough for a full day of climbing, if you are a route climber. for an experienced climber with a specialty, these are NOT worth the money. buy something more specific to your need! (Also, you should EASILY be able to find a good shoe for 110 dollars...)
