Scarpa Mustang GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's

When you need a reliable hiking boot, turn no where else but to Scarpa—they've been hard at it for seventy years. The Men's Mustang GTX uses a Gore-Tex liner and Vibram sole to bring you one of the best midweight hikers on the market. Take this boot up and over the wettest, most rugged terrain you can find—its waterproof upper and Comfort-flex midsole easily handle anything you can find. A reinforced toebox protects the suede leather from kicks, stubs, and mountain man karate kicks while a polyurethane heel-wedge absorbs all the stomps and shock you can send it. So send it.

Bottom Line: Named this year's Top All-Around Midweight Hiking Boot by Backpacker Magazine.

I've done two hikes in these in the White Mtns in NH. On both occasions, the boots did great -- no problem with traction, great ankle support, sturdy and comfortable. On one day, it was spitting rain and generally wet all around. I replaced the stock insoles with Superfeet to add extra comfort. While the boots are somewhat narrow, they have nice room in the toe box. Also, they are very lightweight considering the support they give. I recommend these boots.

Write your question here...Just got a pair of these and am wondering what the best surface treatment might be before using them. Am partial to Snow Seal on my old all leather boots, but thought something else might work better on these. Any ideas?

I recommend Nikwax Nubuck and Suede Waterproofing for footwear. I use the Nikwax products on all my gear, easy to apply and it works. check it out http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Nikwax-Nubuck-Suede-Spray-On-Footwear-Treatment/NIK0045M.html

Perfect for me...

By:
September 30, 2008

I bought these because of the construction quality, the fit and OK I'm swayed by some of the reviews. I have a narrow foot and bought the narrow fit boot as most boots don't fit me terrribly well. These are perfect fit, no real break-in period was needed, plenty of support but not too heavy. Highly recommended.

Great boot but with two problems, If you plan on hiking on wet rocks in or around rivers forget it. The soles are completely useless for traction. I also experienced blisters high on the back of my heels. They were probably not quite broken in yet, so i wont blame the boot for that. I would recommend this boot for someone that plans on staying away from rivers and ice.

One of these reviews mentions a narrow fit boot. Where is it specified in the sizing options if the boot is a narrow fit?

I have about a b width foot which is medium to narrow. I think the Scarpas would be a good fit for you foot type. Depending on what your looking for my Picks SLM3 for heavy duty backpacking, Mustang GTX or Kalash Gtx for a more mid duty lightwieght backpacking boot.

I've had these boots for a few months and have been very happy with them. minimal break in, good comfort and stability in a pretty lightweight package. Excellent all around boot.

Great Boot out of the box...

Just had these puppies out for their first test hike and they rock!! I was a little timid about switching to a lighter-duty boot from my trusty all-leather Lowa Banffs, but being a pound lighter seemed like a no-brainer. Out of the box they are supportive, fit well and feel like they are built for putting in long miles. I normally wear a US men's 12.5 to a 13. I got the 46.5 and they are right on for me.

The RB last is a special last designed to provide a flowing walking action for walkers and ramblers. Designed specifically for the British foot. High volume. The Mustang has SCARPA's BX last, based on a foot of average width, suitable for 90% of people. Tapered at the back in the heel area. Medium instep and ankle area, shaped for good anatomical fit. Suitable for the average foot with a normal plantar arch and contained ankle bone hollow. So, Mustang will be a slimmer, less volume last.

go to scarpa's website they have a conversion chart. They also have one on this its the sizing chart. 42.5 by the way.Try a 10 or 43 because of thicker socks & sock liners.
