Scapegoat McLean Jacket - Men's - 2007

Primaloft One synthetic insulation makes the Scapegoat Men's McLean Jacket just warm enough for an average winter day without making it so hot that you can't wear it for cool summer night. No longer will you have to do the unthinkable and put away your favorite jacket when the season changes. Thanks to a tough cotton canvas exterior, the Scapegoat McLean Jacket stands up to year after year of abuse. After all, the only thing worse then relegating a jacket to the closet is throwing it in the trash.

Bottom Line: The Scapegoat McLean Jacket—nice and warm, but not too warm.

Good construction and nice fit. The canvas material is sturdy. It has a high collar that zips all the way up to keep out drafts. It is not insulated so it's not a warm jacket. I was hoping to get something that I could wear in the dead of winter in Oregon, but not quite warm enough for that. It's great at around 40-50 degrees.

Fantastic Jacket

By:
March 23, 2009

This jacket is absolutely fantastic. It has a great cut, high-quality materials, and is the perfect weight. "brynb" is right–it's the perfect jacket for San Francisco (although I've used it comfortably in cities all across the US). It nice enough so that I can wear it to work, but also fits in perfectly running around on the weekends. I wouldn't use it as a ski (or other sports) jacket, but it's not really meant for that.

I bought the gray one, and the sleeves do extend on the pinky side, although you can fold them in where they're held in place with small magnets. The interior phone pocket on my jacket does have a velcro strap. brynb has done a great job describing all the details–beyond the above, my experience is the same.

My only complaint (and this is really a nitpick) is that the phone pocket is just a little bit too small to easily slip an iPhone into.

I've been looking for a good fall-winter-spring jacket for a while, and this one fits the bill.

It is not glossy. Also it is more like a waterproof canvas than most synthetic materials. Nice classic feel.

Technical city wear

I love this jacket. I wear it around San Francisco, and it is perfect. The jacket I have varies slightly from the one pictured. 1st the sleaves do not extend on the pincky side of the hand as shown in the picture, and the inside welded pocket does not have a velcro strap over the iphone sized pocket.

Where this jacket wins out over others is in attention to detail.

The phone pocket is pretty secure and the way it is cut gives you a little lip at the edge so objects that are square will catch the little lip if you bend forward and wont fall out easily.

The interior welded pocket is comfortable to access and your hand slips in an out very smoothly. Also, the second interior pocket on the other side of the jacket is high capacity pocket -- about8.5 in wide by 10in deep. It is designed like an airplane seat-back compartment. So you stuff stuff in it and it holds up pretty well. It does get heavy though and the weight can be un even.

Only the body of the jacket is insulated. So the arms just have a (nylon?) cloth lining but no primaloft. The body of the jacket is insulated, but it is not a heavy insulation. It is thin and light, but provides more warmth than your soft shell jacket.

The zipper is a heavier metal zipper than most jackets. It has a really nice feel to it and glides nicely. This is a manly zipper (no offense to the girly zippers). Another great detail is that they have reinforced the windflap on the inside of the zipper so that when the zipper reaches the neck area, where their will be the most abrasion from the cloth rubbing against the zipper.

This thing feels like it is built to last. Everything has a reinforcement strip. All the stitching is clean, and it is waterproof with some Japanese lamanent waterproof up to 20,000mm. I don't know what that means, but it keeps me dry. The zipper is probably not waterproof.

The whole style of the jacket is a little more casual than your standard ski/outdoor type jacket, but it has great quality materials. It is cut slimmer than most, and is intended for standing around not tough winter sports. It has an excellent range of motion.

Great Coat - Made in China Though

By:
April 8, 2008

I bought this jacket at the PrAna store in Boulder at the advise of the sales staff who were very excited about this line of "tech" coats for men (womens come out next year). This is a very functional an "sharp coat w/ lots of neat features (great zipper, welded touch points, etc). The coat is not cheap but it's high quality. HOWEVER, the staff said the coat was made down the street (Pearl st) so naturally I was excited. Got back home to CA, and noticed it was actually made in China (very small writing on the tag). Made good with the store and gave some good constructive feedback about the information I had received. So unfortunately I no longer have the coat, but for me it was a "no brainer" sending it back

Social Responsibility

Gee, no wonder our economy is in such disrepair and our trade deficient is 63 billion when people are mindless about where their thing are made and choose to bury their head in the sand.

"Oh yeah an in regards to the other post. who cares if it is made in china??? either way they make a fine jacket over there."

finally a jacket that is masculine and still stands up to the elements

By:

This is a great canvas jacket. It has primaloft one insulation and a pu infused canvas that will actually shed water. The mclean is very warm and tough too. i wore it almost all winter, except on the colder days. Personally i could care less that it was made in China-almost everything is and it seems that they are indeed the best apparel craftsmen, italy aside...
