Salomon's Super X Mid XCR is the ultimate shoe for moving quickly through rugged terrain. Alpine adventure racers, pay attention! The mid-cut Super X gives you more ankle protection than your average trail running shoe. It's lighter and faster than hiking boots in rugged, rocky terrain, but offers Gore-Tex moisture resistance and a protective toe cap. The lace pocket will keep those guys contained, so you've got no chance of tripping. On the laces, anyway. A power strap above the ankle lends extra support and improves fit. The Running Contagrip gives you superior traction when you're booking through that final 100 yards of scree.
Bottom Line: Run fast, take chances. But keep yourself safe in the Super X.
Its very hard to find mid-high walking all-purpose shoes. I was very reluctant to order any shoes without trying it on first. I visited local sporting stores to try the same size (in different model) and felt comfortable enough to buy online. Glad I did. It runs true to size and fits great. I wished that shoes were bit cooler on my feet but other than that, it has exceeded my expectations. I would buy it again.
I have a pair of high volume and wide feet. I have tried different style of running shoes and I highly recommend this shoe for those with high volume feet. Good support all around. I wear this shoe for walking and light hiking. Very comfortable. I resolve the width issue by ordering a half size bigger because this shoe seemed to only come in medium width. This shoe may be a bit hot if used in dry summer weather but definitely a must have if you use it in wet spring and cool autumn. Great for winter with thicker socks too.
Great shoe. Pretty light for a mid. I do loads of adventure races long & short but have bad ankles. This is an alternative to having to constantly wrap! Wish they weren't Goretex but oh well!
I ordered this boot for hiking challenges. I was looking for something more than a trail running shoe (I am not much of a runner) but lighter than a boot.
I got a size 9 shoe. It was very comfortable, and definitely very light. Perhaps an 8.5 might have been a better fit, but I could not get over the quick-lacing system. Yes, it is convenient, but I found that I could not lace the toe mid-part of the foot as tightly as I'd want, and my foot would slide forward too much, especially on steep descents (and I'd get a black toenail). Because the hiking I practice takes me into rugged terrain quite a bit, I ended up getting a Vasque Catalyst Mid GTX XCR. A tad bit heavier, but the lacing is more adjustable in my opinion. Had the lacing on the Salomon Super X been the same as the Vasque Catalyst's, I would have stuck to the Salomon.
A tremendous pair of boots. Lightweight, good ankle support, and flexible enough so they become very comfortable within a few hours of use. The "one-pull" lacing system is great. It allows instant fine tuning of the boot's fit. Most comfortable boot I've worn -- even with a 40lb pack.
I am a fan of Solomon shoes. The reviews of the Super-X mid XCR shoe were very encouraging. But so far Im a little disappointed. Maybe they will wear in, but to date the fit at the ankle is not nearly as snug as I had expected. The ankle strap doesn't help much - yet, anyway.
Always loved the old version of these trail runners / boots, the super raids, that proved themselves for me in adventure races around the world. So far these new super x xcr’s also seem to work well. The gortex means they don’t breath quite as well as the old ones. But even if your feet are a bit sweaty, the cold water & wind stay out, so the feet stay warm. Given the ankle support I have found I can wear a larger than usual pair which means I can wear extra socks or have extra room for foot swelling. Not sure how they are going to be in the warmer summer, but I am sure they will be amazing winter boots!
