Salomon Solaris Low Day Hiking Shoe - Men's - 2006
The Salomon Solaris Low Hiking Shoe is an instantly comfortable shoe you don't have to break in. This low-cut, light hiker handles moderate to rugged terrain with ease, which keeps your foot happy on any burly trail. The Solaris Low replaces the Exclaim but maintains all the great features that made the Exclaim Salomon's #1 selling shoe. Split suede and nubuck leather encase mesh vents on the sides of the shoe for excellent breathability. Fabric bridges the tongue to the shoe's upper, which prevents debris from getting in. Salomon's Mountain Contagrip sole offers reliable traction for negotiating rugged, mountainous terrain.
Bottom Line: The Salomon Solaris Low kills it on burly hikes or everyday use.
these shoes were really comfortable. A whole day hiking in them and my feet were as comfortable as when i put them on. they did get a little wet one day but dried by the end of the day, they just didn't withstand water as well as i thought, but other than that a great, comfortable pair of day hiking shoes.
I may have a Salomon foot, I don't know, but these shoes have the right combination of support and lightness for everyday wear. The colors are not so bold that they look garish. The toe box has a firm front that helps when you are kicking the dog's ball. All around, a great value. Good quality, control, sewing, and fittings.
If you have a Salomon type foot, as I clearly do, your foot will love these shoes. They are called low, but furnish a lot of lateral support and are almost half way from a low to a mid in reality. That is good. The soles last virtually forever. Sizing is a sure thing. And last, this place ships fast, and ships well packaged for the USPS delivery here. A good buy, my third pair. They don't wear out so much as just get less new looking.
i bought these to replace my worn down exclaims, with the fear that they wouldnt match up. however, they are just as comfortable and even more grippy! these are excellent shoes for the causual walker without heavy loads, or the city traveller. with heavy backpacks, my heels get a bit tired, as there probably isnt enough support for the load. without, however, i can walk ALL day. ive worn them for 15 hours non stop and my feet felt perfect after that long day. i highly recommend!
The shoes are coming unstitched after 2 weeks of wear. This was my first and is definitely the last pair of Salomon shoes I will own. The quality is extremely poor.
These shoes are fantastic. The big rubber toe guard worked to protect my precious feet. I even got a compliment from one beauty who thought they looked sexy. Anyways, I would highly recommend them. They are true to size and have great ventilation. The shoes may be a bit stiff, which provides a nice sporty ride but can be unforgiving. So make sure to lace 'em up snug and consider some good hiking socks.
To start out I love the shoes including fit and function. As usual with the last 3 pair of "hiking" boots that I have gotten the strings that come with the shoes are the hard slick round nylon type that as the description implies are almost impossible to keep tied. It is hard to enjoy a walk if you have to either retie your shoes every 100 yrds or tie them in knots to keep them tied. A choice of strings, even with a small fee, would be a great alternitive.
These day hikers needed absolutely no break in time. Wore them on a day hike down the Grand Canyon and the red rocks at Sedona, and these boots did not disappoint. They were very comfortable and gripped fairly well. The boots are also pretty stylish, and I have no problems wearing them out. Overall great boots!
Bird watching takes me up (and sometimes off) trails that can be sandy, rocky, hard, steep, soft, weedy, etc. These shoes give me the lightness, grip lets me forget my feet and focus on enjoying nature. If there was a break-in period I cannot remember it. They felt like bedroom slippers from the time I first put them on, yet they offer nice support for my (flat) feet! They breathe nicely, too.
Very comfortable hiking sneakers, great for forest, river and rock running due to tread pattern and weight. They have a good flex pattern due to placement of leather strips over mesh. They have lasted well so far, the first pair are over a year old and I used them four times a week. The shoes are water washable, have worn-in look right out of the box that is so unlike fashionable white sneakersthese are the business end of cross trainers. Issues: Person must have a wide stance (i.e. wide hips) so lace hooks cannot catch. These would be suitable for person with a wide foot, flexible toes and strong ankles; as there is little support but a lot of grip. In the right application they are brilliant so don't change a thing.
These shoes have proven to be very comfortable with good ventilation and look good. The protective toe covering is waterproof but don't expect any water protection from the rest of the shoe. The price was much less than REI wanted for the same shoe and free shipping besides. Complaints of the laces coming untied can be addressed by double wrapping when tying them. Too new to judge durability.
I feel like I've had these shoes forever, probably because I have. They're super durable and very comfortable too. I wear them for day hikes a lot, they have a ton of traction on rocks so I really like them for scrambling.
