The Salomon Men's Scrambler FG TS Winter Boot has the moisture protection and warmth you need for snowshoeing on the weekend or working in six inches of mud. These seam-taped boots are constructed with a waterproof bootie and 400g of Thinsulate BQ insulation. The Winter Contagrip sole provides excellent traction to keep you on your feet and has a rubber heel cut for a better fit with snowshoes. A full-grain leather upper and full-wrap rubber rand make the Scrambler tough enough to last through years of use in harsh conditions.
Bottom Line: Keep your feet happy at work or at play.
great boots, very comfortable and warm. I think they are going to give me years and years of service, they are built well. for extra/normal room for toes go a 1/2 size up.
Very pleased with these boots purchased sight unseen (not even available locally for me to try on). I ordered a half size bigger than my shoes and they fit great. They seem to be well constructed, strong, waterproof, warm and comfortable. Good support for walking. Tried them out for a few days in the Sierra snow. Excellent. The best price also from this site.
what about for a hiking type boot in winter say walking 2 to 3 miles. Have tried other pac type and they are not suitable for walking.. rubbing on the shin, not good support, etc. was thinking of the new north face stuff like the 4 shadows or ice storm not rubber bootoms but a lot more flexable
Doug Crofts,Fitting winter boots is a difficult and timely process. The good thing is once you find a boot that works it is worth it's weight in gold. What boots have you tried so far? Both the Salomon Scrambler or The North Face Four Shadows would be a great option for you. Because you have been experiencing rubbing on the shin I would avoid the Ice Storm, it uses the BOA lacing system. When lacing the boots you will want it snug through the forefoot, this will lock your heal in place. At the top it should be more relaxed allowing the shin to flex forward while walking. Bottom line: without seeing your foot I would go with the Four Shadows boot. When lacing them tie a surgeons knot between eyelets 2&3 and 3&4. There are a lot of sites that show how to tie a surgeons knot if you have not seen it done before. If you have any follow up questions please let me know.Mahalo, Sumo
I'm not a snow person but I needed some boots for a weekend trip to the local mountains. I read the reviews here and checked out what sizes were available for what models and finally settled on these Solomon boots. There's a lot of confusion about what sizes are adequate. Let me state that I'm typically a size 10 and I have wide feet. I ordered 10.5 and they were perfect (with your standard winter/hiking socks). If you have narrow feet... then getting the same size is probably fine. They are very dry... despite walking around in some rather deep snow and into some puddles, I had no issues. The boots were so comfy that I could actually run in them quite comfortably (though not very fast b/c of the heft). The lacing system make it easy to take off and strap back on snug... and as one other reviewer mentioned, the nubs in the back are nice for quick removal without having to "shoe-horn" your feet out of them. I didn't walk around in freezing weather... it was actually closer to 60s and my feet were warm enough that I opted for thinner socks. Works either way. So no regrets! These are great boots!
I have been using junk boots for many years and it never really occurs to you what a good pair might feel like until you splurge on a pair. I went with the 400g insulated pair and they are so warm and comfortable. I do not need 2 pairs of socks. Perfect for shoveling or long hikes with the dog. Very versatile and seems very true to size. I wear a 9.5 shoe. With one pair of socks, the 9.5 was a perfect fit but the 10 was sloppy. with 2 pair of socks, the 9.5 wouldn't fit right and the 10 was perfect. with the 400g insulation there isn't any need for 2 pairs of socks.
I bought these boots to work at a ski resort and have been wearing them for 3 weeks now and they are great. Really warm with 1 sock or 2, comfortable, well made, and they look really good. I haven't used them in sub-zero temps but they have been great so far when I've worn the down to 10 degrees. The sizes seem to run true to size and I was able to wear 2 pairs of socks comfortably under my true size in these boots. There great boots.
Just wore these for a snow camping trip. They might not be as warm as a felt-lined boot but the 400 grams of Thinsulate were plenty warm for me, with night temperatures down into the low 20s. They're sized generously enough for a couple pairs of Expedition weight socks plus a thin liner/vapor barrier, which made up the difference in warmth. I'll take wearing an extra pair of socks vs the clunkiness of snowshoeing in a removable felt liner style boot. Clunky there boots are not. They'd make great regular hiking boots if they weren't so warm. They fit comfortably in my Atlas 1030 size Snowshoe, and they stayed dry, dry, dry, despite the persistently falling wet Sierra snow. Now in sub-zero temps where you're not moving around a lot (at night while snow camping, say) you'd probably want to wear a boot with a thicker lining. Even with the extra socks, I think I was pushing this boot to near its limit with 20 degree lows. Snowshoeing though, they're probably as warm as you'll ever need, unless your talking about the kind of temperatures humans shouldn't be outside in anyways.
You have the weight of these boots listed at 1 lb 10 oz.. Is that for 1 boot or for the pair? It seems extremely light for a pair, 2 lbs. lighter than a comparable boot from TNF.
I have these boots and have written a review on them. I have not weighed them but can say that they are very light. Good ones!I have these boots as well. My size 14s weigh 35oz for the pair.
Boots worked great. I went hiking in waist deep snow and my feet stayed warm the whole time. Very comfortable, but go with slightly bigger size so you can wear thick socks. Great buy with fast shipping.
I got these and I tried them on barefoot and my feet started warming up really fast, I haven't had them out in cold weather yet but I can say they will definetly be warm. They are made really well and they are def a solid boot but the boot is still not super heavy either. I wear a 10.5 to 11 shoe size, I got these in 11 and even with thick socks on there is still plenty of room in them so I would probably get them a 1.2 size smaller if I could.
I just got these about two weeks ago & I absolutely love them. Very warm & comfortable. I've been plunging around in knee deep snow & these boots keep out all the snow.
These boots come as advertised. I wore them in temps around 0 (F) and they fit my snowshoes (Atlas 1035's) very well. My feet stayed warm and dry and the boots were very comfortable. For what it's worth, I wear size 15 shoes but got these boots in a 14. I'm not sure if they run big or small but that is how it worked for me.
Had these boot for about a month now. They are great for what I use them for; shoveling the walk, sledding w/ the kids and walking the dogs. I have a slightly wider foot so am happy with the fit. Plenty of room in the toe box as well. Trudged through some slush last week and they didn't leak on me! I tried some North Face boots out but hated the narrow fit. The Salomons were my second choice but ended up being the best.
Also, I bought the black leather version and have to say that the photo on this site doesn't do them justice. they look great in person :)
I did a ton of research one day when I had the time and decided on these for multiple reasons; the fit, the warmth, I know and trust the MFG, they are the lightest boots in this class, and are not too bulky. And to top it off, you simply cannot buy from a better store than backcountry.com. They also had the lowest price. You will be pleased with these boots and backcountry.
got these for snowshoeing and general winter boots. took them out the other day and they worked great. nice and warm, just wore 1 regular pair of socks and didn't get cold feet all day. it's almost like they were designed for my MSR denali snowshoes, rear strap seats well and the heel lifter slips right into some notches in the tread. They're also very light. I wear size 13 shoes and the size 13 boot fits fine. I'd recommend them to others looking for a good snowshoe/winter boot.
Nice boots! Comfortable and warm. I wouldn't recommended for high activity in above freezing weather b/c these baby's are really warm. I got a 1/2 size larger than my shoe and I'm happy.
Enjoy the water proof light weight, easy to put on and easy to lace & tie. I would recommend at least 1/2 size larger. Worked for me. I don't agree with the -30 degrees factor, but toe warmers take up the slack on 4 to 6 hour trips outside. Excellant Boots.
These boots are my perfect companion for their intended purpose. True to size, very comfortable, light weight, excellent traction, warm and good looking. Good to Go!
These boots are comfy, warm, and easy to install which leads to more dog walks for the faithful hound. I bought an 8.5, which is my typical shoe size, and they seem to be extra roomy in the toe box, definitely room for monster thick socks. Moderately warm. Nice nub on back for kickin them off.
I purchased these boots about a month ago for a sub-zero backpacking trip in northern Maine. I hiked in them for 34 miles in temps ranging from 4 to -20 degrees. Boots performed well with or without snowshoes and were plenty warm and waterproof. I sprayed them with a coat of liquid beeswax before I left..no problems. Boots were true to size...I would not order larger than what you normally wear. I now wear them outside for work everyday and would highly recommend.
