Salomon STH 14 Ski Binding - 2008

Back with a vengeance and covered in metal, the Salomon STH 14 Binding is a welcome sight for those seeking more protection than a 12-DIN binding, but who don’t quite fit the straitjacket personality of the burly STH 16. With a 6-14 DIN range (read: still burly enough for most) it’s almost 300g lighter per pair than its big brother. The same auto-adjusting toepiece wing design returns from the classic Solly Z-series, but featuring a new metal-reinforced heel, the STH 14 has the trustworthy retention and release you loved about your old binders, with the extra durability you need in the new era of supreme sending.

Bottom Line: Stronger, better, metal…er.

Nope, just with 100mm. You could probably buy the brakes seperately.

I want to purchase these bindings, just want to make sure of something first...In the drop down box with the items, there is a 90mm next to the color. What is that, the brake size? The brake size is listed below at 100mm. My skis these will be mounted on are 87mm at the waist, will they fit?

Yes, they'll fit. That is the brake width, and it's the absolute maximum width you can put them on. That said, they'll have to be centered on a part of the ski that is 90mm or less wide, which might force you to put them closer to midline than you want.

I was considering buying the Salomon STH14 ski binding...I have lifter plates (10mm yellow salomon driver plates) that fit the older 914 salomon bindings and wanted to know if the mounting points were the same so I could so the lifter plates on teh STH14s?Is there any reason why I should not mount lifters on my Mantras...I assume it would give better hard snow grip.

Skiing the Mantras on hard snow is not fun. Mount the 14's normally, and you'll have a dope setup for soft snow.If the snow hardens up, the Mantra is one of the last skis I'd like to be on, Thats when the Fischer Watea's come out.(Trying not to sound jerky.. just kickin' the truth)

The factory mounting line is at 6cm back from center, I have mine at 4cm back from center, 2cm FOREWARD of the line and love them there. Don't listen about what some people say about bacon's on groomers, they carve big fat GS turns at warp speed, so damp and stable, yet still snap around quickly when you want to, I have been skiing for over 30 years and these are the funnist ski i have ever ridden. Another thing is that they don't feel like 115 under foot to me but more like a 90 to 95 ski, until you hit pow, then you relize the width because you just float, enjoy.

Solid!

These bindings were built to last. They have some reinforced metal areas to ensure this binding holds up to some abuse. Salomon uses its fairly new toe peace design to keep this binding light and playful. Great binding for a lighter skiers powder setup or anyone looking for a durable park binding that will stay on for hard landings.

Why do i keep getting your ?'s---- just kidding----- they are both good bindings, I used salomon for years and both my son and I had problems with the toe piece thats why i switched to look/dynastar/rossie. i don't know if they changed the toe piece on the STH line but i have not heard of any probs with them.

The metal in the heel makes it a lot stronger binding, which was a weak spot on the Z 14.
