For the girl who actually doesn't (gasp with shock) want a ski helmet that makes her look like Rambo, the Smith Women's Intrigue Helmet keeps the skull intact with understated feminine design. Smith knows that “feminine” doesn't necessarily mean loud, pink, and flower-covered. The Intrigue Helmet's tough Hybrid shell looks sleek and unobtrusive, while the Regulator ventilation system keeps steam from building up as you ski the trees. A plush, furry Tricot lining saves you from the lift-ride shivers, and a removable goggle clip secures those lenses in place. The Intrigue's ear pads snap out if you want to upgrade to an audio system.
Bottom Line: A feminine ski helmet? What an intriguing idea.
Since I never used to wear a helmet I was very hesitant getting one as I was convinced it would constrain my vision and would feel awkward on my head. Turned out this great looking Smith helmet was the solution-it is light and fits comfortably without putting pressure on my neck. Its padding makes it very warm, much warmer than any hat I own. It doesn't hurt that it's cute (I got it in pink). My Oakley goggles fit great. All in all, great purchase-highly recommended!
I've upgraded to audio on this helmet, and both Smith and Backcountry make it a little confusing to figure out which kit you need. The Intrigue is compatable with the Universal line of audio accossries (which may be sold out on this site.) The "Bombshell" line of accesorries are for the Holt and Hustle, and the Intrigue requires the Universal which is for the Variant and others. The audio earpads are slightly bigger, though they fit and are compatible. They also are not as fuzzy and close fitting as the earpads that come on the Intrigue. That said, wear a thin headband and you'll be loving having your tunes.
I bought this helmet wanting a comfortable helmet that would provide warmth without being overally large. The inside of the helmet is plush and comfortable and provides warmth without making you sweat. There are adjusters on the back of the helmet which really give you a custom fit and the removable ear pieces allow for you to ski while using your ipod. I have a pair of Scott goggles and they seem to work with the helmet although I will probably be switching to a pair of Smith goggles later this season.
I have this helmet, and I think the Smith Phenom is a good fit. I also have a pair of Smith's Heiress goggles, but I find that the frame is slightly narrow in terms of trying to fill up the width of the helmet opening. You may as well stick with Smith for goggles to take advantage of the Air-Evac helmet/goggle ventilation.
The Smith Intrigue Helmet is a great looking, simple helmet, just what I was after. It's warmer than the helmet I replaced, and fits me better too. It has plenty of holes for ventilation, and I like the three settings (fully open or closed, and half-way). I find that my Smith Phenom goggles are a better fit with it than the Smith Heiress. The Heiress goggles are just a bit too narrow, and leave a bit of gap on the sides between the side edges of the goggles and the start of your helmet. The ear pads are close fitting and much warmer than those on my old helmet. (I used to have to wear a headband over my ears or a balaclava all the time. I don't think that will be an issue with this helmet except on the coldest of days.) My only complaint is that I have a harder time hearing people with this helmet compared to my old Leedom. All in all, an excellent choice, and I'm very pleased with the fit, quality, and looks.
