Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's - 2008

The Sierra Designs Men’s Microlight Jacket provides lightweight water and wind resistance in a compact and durable package for traipsing the streets of an old European city, walking the pooch in the early-morning hours, or enjoying a short hike. This fully featured jacket has a full-zip front, adjustable hood and hem, and elastic cuffs to keep out the drizzle. Two front pockets hold your cell phone, wallet, or keys, and when the sun pokes through the clouds, pack the Microlight into its small included stuff sack.

Bottom Line: Light protection in a light package.

A little Risky

If you intend to take it backpacking. It does a good job with the rain, but only for a short time and a pretty light dose. Any real storm could be dangerous if this is all you have - I have had to camp early which is not something I like to do. The Hurricane Parka is a little heavier and more expensive, but much more adequate for backpacking. Great for day hikes and stuff like that though.

this jacket does not have any insulation. it will keep you "warm" in the sense that it will help keep the wind off of your body and in light drizzle or a passing shower will help to keep you dry, but it will not keep you warm in the traditional sense.

Zippers failed the second time I used the jacket. They took a lot of force to move, and the zipper device just came apart.
