Keep a secure hold on your canine escape artist with the Ruffwear Web Master Dog Harness. This ergonomic harness keeps your dog safely on a leash without choking or harming your dog. When your pup needs help getting over an obstacle in the backcountry or getting into high vehicles, the Web Master's secure top handle allows you to help lift your four-legged friend. Thanks to burly 500-denier nylon, the Web Master gives you years of service. Fleece-lined straps won't chafe or scratch your pooch's belly.
Bottom Line: Keep tabs on your furry-friend with the Ruffwear Web Master Harness.
I have a skinny 60lb lab/hound who LOVES to hike. I got this harness for him (size Medium and he uses it on the tightest settings) recently, and am so glad I did. He's a great hiker, but occasionally is intimidated by steep rocky slopes, or icy spots. When this happens, I just clip a leash to this harness, and pull him right up. Usually he can get his legs in position to help out my efforts, but sometimes I do end up actually pulling him straight up, and the harness works just fine for that. I wouldn't "rappel" him (too risky), but I believe that Ruffwear has recently released a new product that is safe for dog-rappelling, so I would recommend that instead.
All in all, a great product. I get a ton of comments about the harness from other hikers, most of whom have probably bought their own by now!
Just like the question about using the harness for paragliding, you have to ask yourself, would you rope in with plastic clips? The best bet would be to contact Ruffwear directly to find out the tensile strength of the clips (assumedly they would be the weakpoint, but then again I'd be doubtful of the strength of any stitching on the nylon webbing either.) As the other answer below states, the vast odds are that while Ruffwear will want to promote the strength of the materials for controlling your dog, they aren't going to sign off on lowering the dog off of a cliff.
THANK YOU! I have used many Ruffwear products before, but this one is the BEST! My 13 year old lab has been diagnosed with a spinal/ arthritis issue that has severely impacted his mobility. We purchased the web master dog harness '08, and it is FABULOUS! We have three different veterinarians/ and animal hospitals for treating this condition, and other issues, and they are impressed as well. Since using this harness, we've had more than one doctor take it off, and go show it to other clients who need the same support. It's comfortable, easy to put on, and the handle and loop on the back and at the end help me assist my dog at standing and other 'duties' without losing his dignity when he needs assistance. I've recommended it to everyone, AND one Veterinary Hospital is considering keeping it in stock , or at least the info, to recommend to their patients. Again, I THANK YOU. I give it a 5 star rating because you don't offer 6 stars! Barbi, and Big Dog Cody, Pet Partners and Therapy Dog Team
Two months ago, I adopted a Bearded Collie. She's 25' tall and weighs 57 pounds, She was a stray, and it didn't take me long to figure out why: She loves being outdoors and she's stubborn. If she doesn't want to go in, or in a certain direction, she'll just stop, and then try to pull out of her collar. I assume that at one point she succeeded and ran off.
I thought that I could cure that by buying her a harness. She quickly figured out that if she laid down on her side, that would take care of that, and it did. I couldn't drag her. She actually slipped the harness twice, and ran off. Fortunately she came back. I literally was at the end of my rope when I found this harness. It has changed my life!
She can't slip out, and if she doesn't want to go in the direction I'm taking her, I just grab the handle and pull. She gets the idea very quickly; it just works beautifully. Moreover, it is so well made, and I just couldn't be happier.
This harness is perfect. My pup is a really strong pulled and this harness keeps him under control. The handle on the top is great when you need to pick him up or help him over a big log. I use it as a harness for him to pull me on my longboard and it is great exercise for him.
the sizing in the tech specs on the right shows it by dog girth. So if you can measure around your dog and see how big he or she is then that will tell you exactly. But my guess would be with your dog being that size that they would need the Large.
I've used the ruff wear webmaster harnesses for a few years now. This model is the first '2008 version' I've tried and I do love a lot about it - the new fabric, brighter color of the red, reflective piping and 'stay put' padding. What I don't like is the lack of cohesion that the older model had. One piece didn't flex and move like this one. However, I still think they're the best harnesses around and am a fan. Dogs can't escape if they 'put on the breaks'. If I never used the old version I would have no complaints but if you can, buy the 2004-2007 version at a deal. Otherwise, and for night/road walkers, this is the way to go!
Thanks snowgoat. This may seem dumb but, how does the harness go on? Do I need a PHD in doggy harnesses to get this on my pup. He's name is Cheechoo who happens to be a real kick butt ice hockey player and I don't want to make him look bad due to my inability to do anything mechanical. He is a star you know. Also, can they slip out of this harness? Cheech seems to be able to get out of anything that's not around his neck. Thanks for the input. Look forward to hearing from you or anyone else that has suggestions.~karen
Karen - I hope you already got an answer, but if not...It's easy to use, the front section goes over Cheech's head (looks like a "Y") at the end of this section is a loop that you feed the chest strap through. This places a strap on both front shoulders that is locked in place when you loop the chest strap through it. The strap at the back is just like a belt - nothing looped, but holds it in place. The harness system is the same for their packs, which I use with my weimaraner - Rafe, and very easy to put together. I tried other packs before finding the Ruff Wear product and this is the best out there - Rafe destroyed 3 other packs mainly because they were cheaply built. I love the Ruff Wear pack so much that I'm tempted to buy the harness so I don't have to use the pack all of the time. All of the stress from pulling will be on Cheech's chest/shoulders, not on the neck.Hope this helps...
My dog loves to pull and I got this harness to take the stress off his neck and it did the trick. Now when he pulls, it is coming from a central spot on his back and not hurting him at all. This harness fits great, if your dog fits in between sizes I would recommend going a size up because the straps are adjustable and you can always tighten them a bit. Their fleece lining doesn't irritate him and he hasn't tried to squirm his way out of it yet either. Great for everyday walks as well as hikes.
I have a very furry Keeshond that likes to pull and I'm afraid that he might hurt his neck. Because of all his fur I need something that easy to put on. We're not what you would call hikers or campers, just me and my dog on nice long walks. Would you recommend a harness for him.Karen
This harness is not designed to discourage pulling and will actually make it easier for the dog to pull because the weight will be distributed to the shoulders and chest. Look at the similarity to a weight pulling, dog sled or skijoring harnesses which are designed so the dog can pull comfortably. If you have a strong dog that may present a problem for you. There are other harness/collar designs specifically to reduce pulling without choking the dog.
I got this harness for the very same reason and it has made walks sooo much easier. It's also comfortable because the straps are fleece-lined so they won't irritate your dog. Mine seems to like it and doesn't fuss when I put it on him.
This is THE best harness ever!! Since my Mom got me this harness I have been the talk of the neighborhood. All the other 4 leggers are watching me as I glide by with my ultra smooth, way cool, new harness. Being blind, I have a tendency to zig-zag on our walks......this harness helps me to keep a straight line and keep that ultra cool composure. The babes can't resist me now....I'm no longer z-boy....now I'm just walkin proud and lookin good.
Thanks Ruffwear......for taking me from ordinary to Kool....with a capital K.
