what size is a large? I might be needing a medium.

I wear size 6 or 8 and I bought a Large. The waist band fits pretty tight, while the rest of meshy part of the short is a little baggy. They don't fit uniformly like spandex...but that is just fine because they don't fall down and they work awesome.
