Princeton Tec Yukon Headlamp - 2007

Long distance lighting or close-range illumination? The Princeton Tec Yukon Headlamp gives you the best of both worlds. Whether you're night climbing, paddling, setting up camp or reading a book, the Yukon will become your most trusted companion. The Yukon harnesses the power of a focusable Xenon bulb to give you super-bright, focused light when you need it. Meanwhile, three space-age, Ultrabright LEDs deliver long-lasting close-range lighting for around the campsite. Princeton Tec designed these three bulbs in a triangle pattern to keep the beam of light even and smooth. The Yukon is waterproof to 1m, so not to worry if you drop it in that stream while you wash your dishes. A sturdy elastic webbing strap provides a custom fit, and the hinged lamp housing lets you point the beam where you need it.

Bottom Line: The Princeton Tec Yukon gives you a versatile headlamp that will get you through your outdoor adventure.

Perfect for its intended purpose

This is the perfect headlamp if you need long battery life AND long distance lighting. It is definitely heavier than my other LED only headlamps I use for backpacking. However, I am a volunteer with Search and Rescue. When scanning a mountain side for a victim at night, LED's just don't cut it. This headlamp provides the perfect balance by allowing you to use LED's to extend the battery life while hiking. Then, switch to the Xenon for those times you need more light or distance. The construction seems to be reasonably durable. No issues or problems with it so far.
My only suggestion to the manufacturer would be to put the LED's and the Xenon on separate switches. There is only one switch that controls both and you have to cycle through the settings. If you are using LED's then turn it off, the next time you hit the switch the Xenon will come on. It is so bright it can effect your night vision if you are not careful.

Too Heavy

By:

Great Lights. Just too heavy for long backpacking trips. Other headlamps are half the weight. Uses 3 AA batteries. Opt for 2 AAA battery lamp. Unless you plan on doing a lot of night hiking then you will need longer battery life. No reason to carry heavy batteries.
