Petzl Pro Traxion Pulley

The Petzl Pro Traxion Pulley's self-locking system makes hauling easier for you on your next big wall climb. Thanks to a large-diameter pulley, the Pro Traxion maintains 95% efficiency when it comes time to haul the pigs. The auto locking cam works well, even on muddy or icy ropes thanks to its extremely aggressive design. Petzl also gave this compact hauling system a bottom carabiner hole to allow you to build more elaborate haul systems when the load weighs too much for a basic one-to-one haul.

Bottom Line: Take some sting out of big wall bag hauling with the Petzl Traxion Pulley.

Update on Pro Traxion review

By:
September 10, 2008

Last weekend I was hauling with an 8mm static line using the Pro Traxion and the rope slipped off the pulley jamming between the pulley and the gold colored side. It was a major pain to free the rope after it jammed. I transferred the haul bag on to another line and removed the Traxion from the system (that was the easy part). However once the rope was jammed on the side it was very difficult to open the Traxion. I pounded on the release button to get it to go in, then pounded on one of the plates to rotate the pulley open. The gold side flares out to facilitate the release button. This leaves enough of a gap to allow the rope to jump the pulley. If you use this device,be careful that the device can move around freely and that your direction of pull is always parallel to the haul line on the other side of the pulley.

Will this pully work as a standard pulley. Id like to use it

Will this pully work as a standard pulley. Id like to use it to lift my bear bag @night but from what I see when I pull the rope my bag will go up and stay up??? also working load says 6kn what does this mean in lbs. If I anchored it above and pulled down on one end of the rope how much weight could I put on the other end safely.assuming a solidly anchored pulley.

This would depend on a number of factors. If you just want to get the bag off the ground get a standard pulley and tie the rope off at the ground level. The working load limit is 1349 lbs of force. Plenty strong for your bear bag. Once the camming unit is engaged and the teeth lock down. There is no way to pull the rope through unless you manually adjust the camming device to release the load. I'd advise against using this to pull up your bear bag - it's plenty strong for that, but definitely not what it's designed to do. A lighter, simpler, and cheaper pulley would work just fine. However, if you're setting your bear bag up somehow where you can put a pulley up there, I think you're doing it wrong. If you can climb up there to put a pulley in place, a bear can climb up there to get your stuff.

Standard Wall Hauler

The Pro Traxion is pretty much the standard wall climbing hauling device for big loads. If you want to save a little weight and are not hauling hundreds of pounds then the mini traxion is probably sufficient. Smooth pulley, cam always locks well, easy to operate and work with. Well worth the money if you want to suffer from hauling heavy bags.
