Petzl MYO XP Belt Headlamp

You'll appreciate the excellent cold-weather performance of the Petzl MYO XP Belt Headlamp the next time you're in the mountains for a freezing 2 a.m. alpine start. Regular headlamps run out of energy very quickly when cold weather saps their power, but the MYO XP Belt Headlamp has a remote battery pack that can be worn inside your jacket to keep it warm and therefore keep the light going. A single ultra-bright LED bulb provides light up to 97m in boost mode and lasts for 180 hours on the lowest setting. For close-up work or reading in the tent, flip up the wide-angle lens to spread out the light.

Bottom Line: When cold weather kills your partner's headlamp, the Petzl XP Belt keeps going strong.

Awesome light!! Used it during the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run and it performed flawlessly. No problems in the dark on the mountains.

Great service

The product worked very well. I used it for the first time on a 50 mile trail run. The economy light level was all I needed for the terrain, which was not overly technical. The high power light level would be way more than adequate in any terrain. The long cord was kind of a pain. I wish I could have taken some of the cord out and hooked the batteries to the head strap. I opted for the belt model because I may use the light in the winter months and wanted to keep the batteries warm inside my coat. If I would have thought more about it, I would have realized that the batteries would likely be just as warm under my hat. I would have bought the normal headlamp.

Backcountry.com was a great source. The online help was very good and matched the cheaper price I found with a different online vendor. I would not hesitate to buy from them again. They get 5 stars in my book!

150 lumens when using the boost mode. Will sustain that brightness for nearly 20 seconds.85 lumens on high setting. Also really lightweight, diffuser is ultra simple yet totally effective.Easy to use buttons, even while using gloves. You won't find a better light than this one for what you want to use it for.Your friends headlights will look like their batteries are all running low compared to yours :)

Great headlamp, simple design

By:
September 27, 2009

I like the light weight, the simple battery-pack design, and the diffuser (wide angle vs. beam mode).

It could be a little brighter... hence the four stars. Fine for late-night descents and final-pitch topouts - not sure it could quite handle an alpine start in an alpine environment.
