The Petzl Men's Hirundos Harness gives you the lightweight, low-profile design you need to tackle the hardest sport routes. Petzl didn't stop there either. They used a perforated closed-cell foam to pad this minimalist harness without inhibiting breathability. You won't sweat like crazy during a summer projecting sesh. The Hirundos Harness has four gear loops to hold all your draws and two Caritool slots to give it the versatility to take it on cutting-edge bolted mixed climbs in the winter.
Bottom Line: Gear up with the Petzl Hirundos Harness the next time you rope up for an at-your-limit sport route.
I *love* this harness. I'm 5'9", 140 pounds, 30" waist, enjoy long walks on the beach and I wear a Medium in the Hirundos (and in the Petzl Sama.)
The Hirundos is basically the Petzl Sama on a diet. Take the Sama, chop down the waist and leg loops, skinny out the belay-loop (while still meeting standard climbing harness strength requirements), skinny out the waist-strap and the speed-buckle, ditch the haul loop (but keep the 4 gear loops) and finally, turn the orange up to 11 and make the silver almost sparkly. Yes, "sparkly."
With that said, I love the Hirundos for everything except hour-long hang-dog or belay session. Its light weight and vented means you really won't notice it on during the day. Standard disclaimer applies: If you have really whopping thighs, then the legloops will be tight for the appropriately sized waist. The solution to that? Get the Adjama. :)
Awesome. feather weight. I don't even notice it. Because of an elasticized triangle on the front of the leg loop, I can wear this in the summer sport climbing and over a down suit on 8000ers and still have the same great fit. Working routes can get a bit uncomfortable but that is the price to pay for excellence in nearly all other applications. Definitely in the category of "super gear". Be prepared to receive comments on the "flashy ness" of this harness.
Looks like a great harness, but I have larger legs and am worried about the legs not being adjustable. Will the leg loops stretch at all and how far up my leg should the loops ride?
Petzl makes great harnesses and I have had very good luck with them. If you have larger legs, GO WITH ADJUSTABLE leg loops. I know it is on sale and a great deal, but you will end up having to get another harness.
As far how the leg loops, they will fall somewhere on your upper side and below your butt on the back side. I keep the loops a little looser when belaying and climbing moderate stuff. If I'm really working something or know there is a chance I could take a whipper I keep it a little more snug.
Check out the Petzl Adjama $89.90 and has adjustable leg loops
It feels like I'm not wearing a harness at all. It weighs almost nothing at all! It's comfortable to wear whether I'm belaying, climbing, or just sitting down to rest and it's got a great range of motion. Petzl really pulled out all the stops with this one. By measurement I should be on the low half of a Medium but a Small is definitely the way to go for me. If you tend towards the low end of a size you might consider just buying one notch down.
This is an outstanding harness. Petzl didn't cut any corners when they made this harness. It's beefy and lightweight at the same time. I especially like how the strap that holds the belay loop in place is a solid piece of webbing and doesn't come undone.
It's the best harness i've worn yet for sure, and i've sported 7 harnesses so far. It's super-lite and ventilated. Petzl removed all the unimportant junk like leg buckles and created a harness that is just that and nothing more and comfortable in climbing and falls. Don't go setting routes in this harness it's not made for it. I love this harness and you will too.
This was the second time I ever wore this harness and I onsighted four 5.12a's, three 5.12b's, and one 5.12c in a day without ever taking it off. After that I took it off to drive to a different crag where I redpointed a 5.13a in 3 goes.
Perfect sending harness. Definitely not intended for hangs or long belays. The harness also runs true to size, if not a tad small. I'm a 32/33 waist, 6'2 185 and wear a large. I love this baby at Rumney where the crowds are as thick as the flies and the humidity is tangible. Keeps me light and cool with the vented waistbelt and folded nylon loops.
This harness is pretty cool indeed, lightweight, no leg loop, no need to double-back. It's a minimal so not really for trad, but very good for anything else.
Lightweight, sturdy, and comfortable. I recommend this harness to every friend. Has allowed for some of the best days of climbing yet. Mesh covering allows for breathability, and remedies the sweaty thighs so many other harnesses produce. Spend a little more, but you get a harness that will last.
This is my first harness and i am very sastified with it its going to be hard to buy another harness after im finished with this one. It is an excellent buy
I love this harness! It's really the best one I've ever had. It's great for in the gym or outdoors. It's got 4 gear loops for a full set of quickdraws and some gear if you need it. It's super breathable and light. I love the non-adjustable leg loops and the small belay loop. The green color on the black is also a winner. Everyone will compliment you and ask about it!
This is my first harness so I can't comment as to how it compares to others. It is very comfortable and was affordable at $55 and is great for indoor climbing. I am a pretty big guy at 6'5" 200 and the large fits well. The leg loops are perfectly sized.
I was previously wearing a harness (the Metolius Safe Tech Harness, actually) that made me feel like I was in thigh-tourniquet hell whenever I fell, hung, or belayed someone. I got the Hirundos on a friend's suggestion and I'm so stoked - despite the fact that the padding is minimal, it is unbelievably comfortable. Less bulk also means I'm less of a sweaty monkey on hot days. I'm a fairly small gal (5'6, 103lbs) and the XS was perfect, even though this is a men's harness.
