Petzl Hirundos Climbing Harness - 2008

When you are working through the crux on your latest project, the last thing you want to think about is your harness. That's why the Petzl Hirundos Climbing Harness has only the bare essentials. It has three gear loops to hold your quickdraws and a DoubleBack buckle on the waist to make getting in and out easy. The skinny waist belt on the Hirundos will allow you to move freely and also has three slots to attach Petzl Caritool for hard mixed climbing.

Bottom Line: The Hirundos won't hold you back when you're pushing your limits.

Awkward gear loops

The one problem I did have with this harness was that the gear loops are placed horribly - maybe I'm just an idiot, but it looked like the two plastic ones were on the front of the harness. Turns out there's one on the front right and one on the back left, forcing you to load all your draws on your right loop and reach awkwardly across your body with your left hand, or load half on each and reach awkwardly behind you with your left hand. No matter what, unless the draws are already placed, clipping is pretty awkward.
Aside from that, the harness is great. Fortunately I climb at Rumney where most of the draws already are placed, but it still is pretty annoying.
