The Petzl Duo LED 5 Headlamp combines an ultra-bright Halogen bulb and five LED bulbs to give you the option between long-distance lighting or energy savings. The LED bulbs run for 65 hours with the four AA batteries to help you set up a tent, hike in the dark, or read at night. When you need more light, switch to the Halogen to get a 100-meter beam from the versatile Petzl Duo LED 5 Headlamp for demanding night activities like climbing and skiing.
Bottom Line: You don't need to compromise between long-range lighting and long-lasting lighting. The Petzl Duo LED 5 Headlamp provides both in one versatile package.
According to Petzl's Technical Notice for this lamp, it produces 40 lumens from the LED array. For some reason, they do not provide the output rating of the halogen bulb.
The halogen bulb on this thing is pretty sweet for lighting something in the distance and the 5 LEDs can make it seem like nearly daylight in your immediate surroundings. My roommate got one and I borrowed it on a remote bouldering trip and I wish I could afford one. It seems heavy but it isn't bad at all one you got it on your head. Luckily it uses AAs too because he says it didn't last as long as he had hoped. Also he claims the case is waterproof but I'm not about to jump in the river with it on quite yet.
hey, i need a lamp that will light up the area around me HARDCORE, like within the 20 meter area. i dont mind paying whatever it costs im just torn between the myo rxp, duo5 and duo 14. dont see a buzillion flood light led's on the myo rxp like there is on the duo and im wondering if that will matter. any info will help. thanks
I just discovered the Lupine light systems. The duo lights up about 10 feet around you with the LED and the spot is just that ... a spot about 10 inches wide and at a distance it's pointless. The only light on the market that is weather proof/water proof and bright like your asking is made by lupine.
I have a Petzel Duo LED 5 Headlamp that a bought a few years ago from backcountry.com. I also have a USAR helmet by Pacific. I'm looking for the clips that hold the light to the helmet. Do you sell them?
This would be the Baddest Headlamp to ever surface the GEAR WORLD! I was like a little boy opening his xmas presents for the first time when I found this light was still available. Best *#@**@ headlamb ever. Used the first edition for 5 years, backpackin trips 3-4 times a year. Now I be orderin another. Thanks Petzel.
I purchased a little 30 head lamp from lowes hardware that i throught was ok but wasn't water proof and i use it on the ocean a lot at night. I ordered this light because it was the highest price next to the big $400 jump to get the better one. This lamp is not what i expected. My $30 cheapo head lamp shines twice as bright. The hologen lamp is thungston balanced and is equal to a mini mag light with the factory bulb. I learned the number of LED's dosn't mean brighter. The cheapo i have has 2 leds that work more like spots while this LED lamp is more of a glow to give good light for about 4 or 5 feet in front of you then it fades off quickly. The hologen can be zoomed in like a maglight but that's it, no other fancy features. construction is good but i was expecting more light for the buck.
i do a lot of SHORE CASTING in hawaii mostly at night i need a light that can shine at agood distance, i fish from high rocky places, lots of little and big holes,i need to be safe #1 and i need to see my poles from a distances a good head lamp is what i need can some one help me, THANKS N-MAHALO BILLY
This is a very good headlamp that will meet all your needs, but for long distance brightness you will be using mainly the xenon bulb. In that case, you could also go for the Black Diamond Icon, xenon +4 LEDs, for 40 dollars less. If you want maximum brightness all around though, this one is the top of the line.
They do now! http://www.backcountry.com/store/PTZ0186/Petzl-Duobelt-LED-14-Headlamp.html------------------------------------------------------------------More diodes doesn't necessarily equate to more lumens (brightness), and the definitely equal greater power draw. I'd seriously recommend the LED 5 if you think it'll meet your needs.Backcountry doesn't stock the Duo LED 14 lamp right now, but all of these guys should be able to help you.http://www.google.com/products?q=petzl+duo+14&btnG=Search+Products
