Petzl Cordex Belay/Rappel Glove

Save your hands from nasty rope burn and grimy dirt with the Petzl Cordex Belay/Rappel Glove. This double-layer leather glove features a breathable stretch nylon back for moisture control on sweltering crag days, and an ergonomic cut for full dexterity when feeding rope. The hook-and-loop neoprene cuff features a carabiner hole, so you can attach the Cordex to your harness after your buddy finishes flailing on his project.

Bottom Line: Let the rock tear up your hands, not the rope.

Great gloves

By:
November 1, 2009

These gloves are well ventilated and fit nicely for me. I have a large hand the extra large is a snug fit but feels good while working with ropes. Very convenient hole for hanging on carabiners. Double leather palm.

Has anyone tried both the Petzl Cordex Belay/Rappel Glove and the Petzl Cordex *Lightweight* Belay Glove? Interested in a comparison. . .does it boil down to desired weight (warm vs colder temps, dexerity, etc.)? Thanks!

I believe there is only one glove, the "Cordex", which is advertised and is actually a "lightweight" belay/rappel glove. I have used this glove and it is indeed lightweight. If you want something lighter then I suggest a driving glove. These are great gloves and if you try on several pairs, you will inevitably will find one pair a bit thinner (due to the nature of leather) than the others.

Good Belay Gloves

By:
April 16, 2009

These gloves work well for catching big whippers without roasting your hands up (rope burn is no fun). They're very tough, but thin enough that you can manage biners and knots without taking them off (although undoing really tight overhands or fig8s might require removal). Also, they work pretty well keeping your hands warm while belaying / hiking / sitting around in slightly chilly conditions. Plus, the clip hole is convenient for racking them on your harness for multi-pitch climbs. Obviously, they work pretty well for rappelling too. Quite good overall.

Good Gloves

By:
April 1, 2009

I normally don't use gloves when I'm climbing or belaying, but I tore up my hand pretty bad opening up a can of chicken noodle soup (Long Story) so I needed something to cover up my hand for belaying, so I bought these gloves. They are thick, heavy duty gloves that fit pretty well. The doublelayer leather is strong and just putting the glove on you know it's a tough, reliable glove. The carabineer holes on the wrists are pretty cool for racking them on your harness. The only problem I have with them is that there is less grip than if you were using your free hands. You have to squeeze harder to catch the rope because the grip is reduced, which can really wear your hands down after a dozen belays or so, but once you get used to that then they are a great piece of equipment to have for climbing.

Hiking Yosemite's Half Dome - I'm looking for a good

Hiking Yosemite's Half Dome -
I'm looking for a good glove to climb the cables to the summit, and not sure if this one would be good or if I should try the Metolius Belay Glove, as I thought perhaps that would be a bit much - not sure. Any recommendations for a good raw hide type of glove for the climb up and down the cables? I would need them in a womens size small. Thanks for the help!!

Burly, keep hands protected and warm... love the clip hole to hang 'em off a 'biner on my harness or more likely my pack. I rarely use them though...

Hands down the best belay/rappel glove made. I now carry these on long routes where it'll be chilly and I'll be doing lots of raps to get off. Actually they never leave my climbing pack as I use them almost all the time for whatever type of climbing I do. They are warm, supple, fit great, have a loop for clipping, and are tough.

I am trying to find small or x-small gloves for climbing water

I am trying to find small or x-small gloves for climbing water towers. Would these be a good glove for this type of activity and if so, do you sell it in small. Can you send me a quote? This is for my job at the City of Oklahoma City. Thanks.

These would be great for that, they do sell them in small, and right now they're $26. This site has all that info right in front of you and yet you couldn't see it. Amazing.

Alternate Use

By:
August 31, 2008

I'm using these as my mission gloves in Iraq, not for belaying. They're holding up well, and breath nicely. No sweat grabbing ability on the thumb since it's leather, but the back works OK for that. Compared to some of the super expensive "tactical" gloves I've used these are badass. Good price to boot.
