So just how warm is this jacket?? It seems like it will stand up to wind and rain, but what about sub-freezing temps?

It's a fantastically warm jacket. It would be extremely well suited towards any cold-weather activity.

For the Wanaka Down Jacket a medium would provide the snug fit you're looking for. Usually I'd go w/a large for your size so you'd have a little more room and length, but the medium would definitely be a little slimmer.
