Patagonia Storm Jacket - Men's

When that afternoon thunderstorm or snow shower rolls in right on cue, zip up the Patagonia Men's Storm Jacket and keep on truckin' down the trail. This two-layer H2No waterproof breathable shell features the weight of a light rain jacket with durability fit for skiing and light mountaineering. A hanging mesh and taffeta liner eliminate the wet-plastic bag feeling, and the two-way adjustable hood and storm-flapped zippers provide increased weather protection. The shoulders and elbows feature reinforcements for brushy trails and gritty pitches. When you've thoroughly worn out the Storm Jacket, send it back to Patagonia to be recycled through the Common Threads Recycling Program.

Bottom Line: Harness the good, block out the bad.

Does this shell work for backcountry skiing? It seems to be more of a rain shell. Is that true?

It will work great as a backcountry skiing jacket. The material is durable and will hold up to any scrapes by branches. The only downside is it doesn't have a snow shield around the waste like most ski jackets. If you can live without that though, it'll work great

The Storm jacket can be used for backcountry skiing. It'll stand up to the rigor and abuse!

That kind of depends on what you are looking for in a jacket -The most waterproof material will be Goretex or eVent, along with the most breatheable. As far as do you want the lightest? There is goretex paclite that will get you a super light jacket under 1 lbs. Then there are heavier jackets that are thicker/stronger and will be goretex or eVent meant for more use than just keeping you dry. Look at Arcteryx Alpha AR, Westcomb Mirage, Arcteryx Alpha SL to see a few differences. My favorite choice is eVent and Westcombs jackets are amazing. Most people would say "TNF mt. light jacket" but it's more trendy than technical now! The Storm jacket is still a waterproof jacket that can take the abuse of skiing and outdoor winter activities while looking great from around-town use.
