Patagonia Skanorak - 2006

When battling an epic swell or paddling open water in a deluge, life will be easier in the Patagonia Skanorak Jacket. This burly sea kayaking jacket is built to keep you dry in rough seas or anywhere a light splash top won't cut it. Patagonia made the Skanorak Jacket from their waterproof breathable H2No fabric and added Stretchcoat wrists to seal out water. The 4-way adjustable hood shelters you from wind and spray, while the anatomically cut shoulders and elbows give you room to move. Stash some energy bars in the big, baffled front pockets, and warm your hands up in the fleece-lined pockets hidden behind the baffled pockets when the sea calms. A zippered arm pocket safely holds your keys so you can get back in the car at the day's end.

Sometimes you get what you pay for

This jacket is a real beauty. I overheat easily and wanted a paddling jacket that I could open fully at the throat, and this is it. Nice fabric (breathes well so far), roomy cut, good details: hood rolls to form high collar with smooth fabric at chin, drawstrings at hood, waist and hem, reflective stripes, 2-tone "don't run me over" orange color (good for NYC waters), big pockets with handwarmers at correct height when sitting in boat. Full zip lets you put it on over a PFD without getting it stuck over your head. Would probably work well for skiing and hiking also. Looks like it will last a long time.
