Patagonia Maximum Legal Carry-On - 2007

Checking a bag can drastically increase your time in the airport, so pack your clothes into the Patagonia Maximum Legal Carry-On, and bring it with you onto the plane. This 2400cu inch shoulder bag holds all your needs for a few days of travel and has plenty of pockets to keep you organized. Tuck-away shoulder straps lets you wear the Maximum Legal Carry-On like a backpack. Patagonia made the MLC with burly 1680D Ballistics nylon to take the abuses of travel, even if you do need to check it.

Bottom Line: Avoid long lines and baggage claim with the Patagonia Maximum Legal Carry-On.

Solid Carry-On

By:
November 2, 2007

Well built and rugged. Nice pockets and layout due to the well thought out design. Much easier to handle in a crowded airport and a more efficient use of space then most roller bags. Fits very well in most overhead bins. A little more padding on the shoulder straps would be nice but that is easy enough to remedy. Great bag for most business or weekend trips. I also own a Victorinox Werks Traveler wheeled bag, and while it is a great bag, I find myself more often then not using this bag instead.

Super!

I almost picked up another carry on bag that was slightly smaller. I am so glad I did not. The MLC is as small as I would want to go. I easily carry everything I need for a week plus I can slip a laptop and sleeve in the outer pocket. I would pick this over a roller bag any day. It can go anywhere.

Great bag for easy travel

By:
June 16, 2003

The Patagonia MLC solved my luggage problems. I love carrying my bag on the plane and have happily used a different convertible bag for very short trips. What I didn't have was a bag for a longer trip. The MLC can easily carry 4-7 days worth of clothes plus that pesky shaving kit, an extra pair of shoes, and a couple books for the airplane. The shoulder strap is very comfortable for the short haul, but the backpack straps are amazingly comfortable (the weight and load distribution is great even when full). The MLC also looks great and is built to last (like everything from Patagonia). All told, a great bag for carrying on or checking - a bag for the years.

Great bag

By:
October 28, 2003

I was looking for a replacement for my 20+ year old duffel bag. I wanted something big enough to carry my stuff for a week-long trip. And I don't like having those wheels; if you can't carry it, don't take it. This bag does it. It's a very functional bag with enough compartments to separate clothes from, say, papers. If your trip is short enough, you can probably fit a laptop in the bag as well. It looks great and works great. A bit on the expensive side, but I think it'll last for a long time. Buy one!

Patagonia MLC is great!

By:
September 20, 2004

My husband and I bought the Patagonia MLC for a 2-week trip to New Zealand. After having our checked luggage lost one too many times, we decided to bring only what we could fit in carry-ons and do laundry on the trip. We chose the MLC because it fits in the overhead bins on all but the smallest planes, yet holds 5-7 days worth of stuff (more than most rolling cases of the same size), and is relatively light. Our only complaint is that the shoulder straps are not very well padded. Nevertheless, the bags worked great for us.

MLC - Tote

By:
September 23, 2004

This is a great bag - construction seems bullet-proof. Large zippers work very well. Plenty of well thought out compartments. The only complaint I have is a lack of compression straps to help when the bag is not completely full and the single carrying handle is not placed well. Overall a great bag for any kind of travel from 1 day to 1 week.

Great bag for short trips

By:

I own many Patagonia made bags, this one is nice because it encourages you to pack lightly and it really does fit well into an airplane overhead compartment. Nice to have small luggage on board when others are carrying steamer trunks on wheels they can't lift. Well made, nice looking and does the intended job.

Superb carryon

By:

Tough construction, well laid out, comfortable handle. So well built I suspect 15 years from it will still be a solid bag.

Patagonia Maximum Legal Carry-On

By:
March 30, 2005

This is probably one of the best small pieces of luggage I own (& I have lots).
I will use this for my up coming trip to the jungles of Peru. It is large enough to hold a weeks worth of wear and a few odds and ends. I love that it has hidden backpack straps (great for portering in and out of messy terrain. Invest in this bag...I think you'll be glad you did!

perfect for me

By:
August 9, 2006

The material is tough, the zippers are strong, and the size is perfect for a week or so. I bought this just before a trip to Colorado, and I love it. It is easy to pack and holds everything in place. The water tight zippers are a nice plus.

Patagonia Maximum Legal Carry-On (MLC)

By:
September 15, 2005

I purchased this bag to replace a Tumi Wheeled Roll-On which died at the hands of USAir. I've owned Patagonia and Black Diamond gear, so I knew what to expect from the MLC.

After 3 trips, this is my primary luggage. There's enough volume for 3-4 day trips, enough zippered compartments to keep your files separate, and you can find room for a laptop if you put the computer in a padded sleeve. Great bag - I'd recommend it to anyone.

Ordering was quick and easy, with good pricing and delivery quicker than promised.

Patagonia MLC!

By:
February 2, 2006

My wife and I purchased two Patagonia MLC bags for our 15 day trip to South America. With careful packing, we both were able to carry everything that we needed. Also, the bags easily fit into the overhead luggage compartment on the plane. We are very happy with these bags: great size, "smart" pocket layout, stylish appearance, convenient backpack straps. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to travel with only carry-on luggage!

Good Bag, But Cheap Shoulder Strap

By:
January 18, 2006

Overall I’m really happy with this latest offering from Patagonia. This is the second messenger bag I’ve purchased from them (the first one held up very well to some rough treatment), and the only gripe I have thus far is the budget quality of the shoulder strap. Given the bag's size and potential for carrying large loads, this strap should be heavy duty, and better padded. This shortcoming, however, can be easily remedied by purchasing a different strap -- somewhat of an annoyance in light of the fact that the bag already costs $150-- or using the nifty, pull-out backpack straps for heavy loads.

MLC is my go-to bag

By:
June 5, 2007

The MLC is just a great bag. Rarely do I travel more than a couple weeks at a time, and I find I can get everything I need in mine. The shoulder straps are decently comfortable, and the waist belt helps transfer the load. Much prefer carrying my load to a bag with wheels (try getting in and out of the subway in NYC with a rolling bag!) I can carry like a pack around the airport, then tuck the straps away and check in to a nice hotel without looking like a vagabond. Bought another for my wife!
