Wear the Patagonia Margot Dress on your Caribbean cruise or during your evening swing class. This smooth organic-cotton dress has one-inch-wide straps so you don’t have to go bra-less and a deep V-neck front so you can show a bit of skin and still maintain plenty of class. The A-line hem falls above your knee and the slim fit follows your curves.
I have always been a pants person. Now that I am 60, I am feeling liberated from whatever drove me to always wear pants... almost. I have taken to wearing dresses and skirts over pants and this one works well for me. I love it and my legs are still warm and I am wearing a dress! Imagine that. Miracles do happen.
I'm curvy-ily built, with a 36D chest. I've gotten patagonia dresses in the past in a medium, which fits perfectly. Should I go with a large in this one? Any thoughts on how the fit compares to cotton dresses that made last summer?
I love sun-dresseds and Patagonia has a fit that works for me. it is a mainly cotton dress, with smooth lines. the waist-band is right under my bustline, and draws attention away from the tummy that I like to pretend isn't there. I live at 9000ft+ so I don't get much humidity or sweat when I wear a dress; I weat more active clothes for hiking and biking. I feel like a pretty cool mountain girl in this dress, I got a small, and am generally a size small, between 4 and 6. I can wear the dress without additional support, and don't worry about headlights, or falling out of the top.
OK, further to my review earlier where I got the medium and it was a tad too informative about my less-than-svelte lower half: I now have the large and while it's a bit loose on top, it now drapes nicely. It's really comfortable, and I like the pattern (Spanish Tiles) a lot. I'm going to put a stitch in the bodice to keep it from gaping, given that it's more roomy than I need, but now I have a nice little dress to wear through summer.
I was hoping this dress might not be so slim-fitting in the skirt as it turned out to be on me (got a medium as large Patagonia stuff is usually too big). Way too much information around the hip and belly area, which was a shame, as the top half was perfect, and I liked the length. Not sure whether I should exchange up to large as I am worried there will be too much space for the girls, but at this point it's going to be a return for me. Unless you are slim around the waist and hips, this dress will be very clingy -
Is the sizing chart accurate, how thick is the band under the bust (thinking in terms of sweating where the band is in the summer), and, will the price of this dress be reduced any time soon?
Yes the sizing chart is accurate, it is taken directly from Patagonia. The band is actually part of the dress, sewn in, and is made of the same material so it should not make a difference. This dress is new for the this spring so the price will not be dropping anytime soon.
The fabrics are beautiful and move with you. A modest and versatile length at just above the knee. Can be dressed up or down with jewelry and cardigan. I loved the one I bought so much that I bought another! Form and function.
Wonderfully comfortable in the heat, and flattering, too. Wore all day in humid 90 degrees, and got so many compliments from friends and strangers alike who wanted to know where I bought the dress. I'm usually a size small/4-6, but for this dress I fit the extra small best. Being rather flat-chested (34B), the straps were actually a little roomy, but not enough to complain about or "cause a scene."
I had the same problem as some previous reviewers... too clingy/tight in the waist/stomach area. It fit perfectly up top, but unfortunately not enough flow of fabric out from the empire waist (which would usually be the perfect style for my body shape, but sadly not with this particular dress). Otherwise it's really cute and the fabric has a nice feel.
So... recommended if you are on the slim side, and not recommended if your middle is your "problem area."
