Some days are resort days, some days are backcountry touring days. Thanks to lightweight, breathable fabric and stretchy welded seams, the Patagonia Men's Light Smoke Flash Jacket is ready for both. The two-way stretch fabric adds a bit of give to this ski shell, and the welded seams cut down on bulk while blocking moisture. Recycled polyester reinforcements on the shoulders and backs of the arms resist wear from backpack straps and hard-charging ascents. Pull up the Light Smoke Flash Jacket's removable hood when the storm rolls in, and unzip the underarm vents when the sun comes out. A soft mesh interior wicks sweat, and the powder skirt blocks snow.
Very Versatile. Perfect without much layering in late fall and early spring. For those cold winter days on the mountain, you need to have several layers with this jacket.
Best ski shell I've ever used. Fits well, venting is perfect for warm spring days and still warm enough to work through the early cold in the am. Plenty of pockets and storage in the right place.
Anybody have any idea how good this would be for resort skiing? I'd wear it on top of an OR Credo softshell, do you think I'd be warm enough? Does it block the wind at all?
The Light Smoke Flash is a great resort skiing jacket, and would be plenty warm over your OR soft shell. The Light Smoke Flash does block wind really well as well as moisture. Especially for this price you can't beat it...
I've had my old snowboarding jacket for about 9 years now, so I wanted to get a jacket that would last just as long, be stylish and verstaile, and have the feaures I needed without sacrificing on durability or breaking the bank. The Light Smoke Flash has fit the bill. I normally where a Large, but the Medium fit me much better. Perfect sleeve length and fit better throughout. I'm 5'11" 190 lbs. and I like the way this Jacket feels. Nice and snug, but not too fit for layering. I can where a descent sized fleece underneath without looking like a marshmallow.
The pockets are huge and have soft warm material.
I stay nice and dry in farely mucky conditions. Not water proof, but very good considering it's not Gore Tex. I like that it's recycled material. The material has a nice texture to it and the shoulder/sleeve material is sturdy and durable. No concerns with snagging or ripping. Overall, I'm very pleased with this jacket.
This is one of the best all around winter sports jackets I've ever own. I've skied in-bounds, out-of-bounds and even a little backcountry in this jacket. I've even slept in a snowcave with just a simple based layer and this jacket and did just fine.
Only Con: Huge hood that is made to fit a helment.. so if you're just planning on wearing a beanie or hat.. Adjust the hood before hand because it's a little touchy.
I purchased this jacket. I love it. But, one small question, where is the "handy pass holder" on the powder skirt? I'm driving myself crazy looking for this, and it says it's there on the description.
I don't see where you read this, but neither the description or the tech specs show anything about a "handy pass holder". This is a pretty backcountry focused jacket, designed for touring or mountaineering, with little in-bounds comforts. So yeah, this jacket doesn't have one, so you can stop looking now.
This is my designated ski and mountaineering jacket. Sure, there are more expensive, completely Gore-tex'd out apparell. But for the money this jacket delivers. I really like the pit zips; i can use em even with mittens on skiing. The detachable hood is great, plus it fits over random headgear fine. Yes it is not 100% waterproof, but if you use the NixWax tech wash and waterproofing system the jacket repells everything. I wear the medium which is a tad short for me, although I am 6'2 and 185. The large gets too much width with the extra length so I stayed with the medium. Lanky guys you will like how the sleeves are long enugh to fit over your gloves even when your arms are above your head.
Breathable, wearable, stylish, happy jacket. Great for on the hill with occasional forays into the slackcountry. Not completely waterproof but close, and hey it's a ski jacket not a rain slicker.
