Patagonia Gi II Zip-Off Pant - Men's

Pull on the Patagonia Men's Gi II Zip-Off Pants, grab your daypack, and hit the road for a few weeks. Patagonia made these athletic-fit traveling and hiking pants with an elasticized waist and zip-off legs so you can save room and weight in your backpack by leaving your shorts at home. Leave the Gi II Zip-Off Pant's legs on while hitchhiking down the coast, and then take them off when you hit the beach in Baja. Patagonia's Supplex nylon twill dries quickly after splashing in the surf, and the zip-shut back pocket ensures you won't drop your passport.

Bottom Line: Lighten your load by bringing the adaptable Patagonia Gi II Zip-Off Pants.

disappointing effort!

Nearly all my base layers is Patagonia. Very high quality clothing! However, I was very surprised by the poor design of this newer version of the classic Gi ll pants. There is now three seams that run down the legnth of the pant legs. One actually crosses over the knees when kneeling down! Very annoying from a seam that really isn't needed. Makes the pants a bit restricting.

The other poor design concerns the zip-off version. The seam situation is still present but the designers neglected to add side zips from the pant cuff up for easy removal of the leg. So now if you want to convert to shorts you actually have to remove your hiking boots to get the lower leg section off.

Clearly not a well thought out design. Surprising for PATAGONIA!

Best convertible pants yet, but some pilling near pockets

By:
September 16, 2008

I've lived in these for a couple of months now and I think they're the best convertible pants I've had yet. They have a great cut, fitting well as both shorts and long pants. They breathe excellently and dry impossibly fast. They've done really well between 55 and 100 degrees F, which is about as good as you can expect for a single piece of clothing. However I have experienced some pilling of the material near the front pockets so I cannot give this 5 stars. I will say that I did just order a second pair.

The inseam for the shorts is 8" with an 18" outseam. The total inseam of the pants in their entirety is 31" with an outseam of 41" (size medium).

Great Pants

By:

Great pants, shorts are okay as they flare out a bit where they zip off, and would have liked another back pocket, but other wise great fit, and weight of material.

Good Hiking Pants

By:

I bought 2 pair and like them. Very light fabric, not for cold weather. Built-in belt is nice when a pack waist belt is strapped around.

above average, nice pants

By:

My first pair of zip off pants. I wore these on a backpacking trip in S. America recently. We were there at the end of the rainy season, so the weather was warm, then cool, then warm, then cool. My poor trip timing was ameliorated by the effortless conversion from shorts to pants offered by the Gi II. Plus they dry quickly, so that's a plus.

well made and roomy

By:
July 10, 2008

Okay...a bit expensive but very well-made and roomy. I say that from the perspective of a couple of weeks but I suspect they will hold up. Pagagonia products usually do. Very roomy legs...truly cut like gi pants...good roomy pockets with drainage. Great for comfortable travel and fast drying. A minor issue...the belt doesn't stay tight.
