Patagonia made the Men's Huckleberry Shoes with all-natural and recycled materials to give you technical footwear for hikes and approaches. Green construction started from the ground up with Vibram Ecostep soles that use 30% recycled rubber .The burly all-leather uppers help the Huckleberry Shoes hold up to long hikes and the occasional hand crack. Patagonia finished these impressive shoes with a 70%-recycled Poliyou foam and cork footbed that has an active carbon treatment for odor control. *Available for US shipment only.
Bottom Line: If the Patagonia Huckleberry Shoes were any more natural, you could burry them in the ground and grow a new pair.
I've never tried a pair of approach shoes; I'm wondering, are they intended to be worn barefoot like regular climbing shoes or will they fit and function appropriately with socks?
they fit and function with socks -they are basically a light hiker with sticky rubber. i suppose you could go barefoot, but sometimes an approach can be a multi hour hike, so socks are critical for wicking and blister prevention, not to mention eliminating bad smell.
These shoes where comfortable straight out of the box.The 10.5 size fit perfectly to my 10.5 feet so no need to go up or down a size.Great light weight summer "light hiking" shoe. Gets great grip going up my steep driveway at my lake cottage and I'm seriously thinking of buying a "back up" pair in case they discontinue the Huckleberry.
Great comfy shoe unless you use them hard. They really are super comfortable right out of the box. After two months the outsole has started to peel off of the midsole on one shoe. I am going to send them back to Patagonia.
I can honestly say these are one of my favorite pairs of shoes I've ever owned. I got them about 2 months ago, and couldn't be more satisfied with them. They are very comfortable ... fit snug, and just have a great feel to them. I've taken them out hiking a few times, and they perform well. They are light but rugged and have a great grip on the soles. At the same time, they have a slick, stylish design, very casual, great for wearing out on any occasion. This is the kind of quality you expect from Patagonia ... its about time they started a line of footwear.
Since having had 3 lower spine surgeries, I've been religiously wearng only Nike Shox on a daily basis/at work since I'm on my feet most of the day. I saw these shoes, liked the design, saw them on sale, so I ordered a pair, thinking if I dont like them, I'd just return them. To my surprise, after wearing them to work once, I've since retired my dozen or so pairs of Shox & now wear these shoes pretty much everywhere. They look great with jeans, cargos, scrubs, etc- and most importantly, they are very comfortable! I'm thinking of buying another pair just so I'll have another set handy when these wear out. I highly recommend them!
This shoe rocks for scrambling in the mtns of Colorado due to its super durable leather and sticky rubber outsole. The capilene lining helped keep my foot dry.
These are exactly the shoe you would expect from the powerhouse that is Patagonia. They are very comfortable and seemingly durable. Im going to step out on a limb and say they feel like the marriage of a trail runner and a climbing shoe.
This is a very comfortable pair of shoes. I bought these as a pair of casual wear around shoes and they seem to fit the bill perfectly. I really like the fact that they are made from recycled trash.
Can anyone elaborate on the fit? Will the leater stretch? im in between 11.5 and 12. Normally wear 12 in tennie's. Would like to use as everyday, But would like to use as an approach shoe on occasion. dont want to get something to small.
I bought these shoes aroung Thanksgiving 2008. I have a similar size foot as you and bought the 11.5. They fit perfect. I also have a narrow foot and they fit snug, not uncomfortable, just the opposite. I am a carpenter and wear these shoes 6 days a week and my feet never hurt. These shoes replaced my $150.00 Red Wing work boots, which are very comfortable and supportive shoes. I would not hesitate to buy these again. They seem to be wearing fine...I do not do any hiking, etc. But they get a pretty good workout on the jobsite.**I definitely agree with the advice above - I wear a 12 in Nike and New Balance, and the 11.5 fits perfectly. I actually ordered both the 11.5 and the 12 just to make sure, and the 12 felt slightly large. Wearing the 11.5 right now and am very happy.
Nice comfortable shoe right out of the box. Not sure about durability yet - haven't worn them hiking/trekking yet but looking forward to those things. Have been wearing them (while they're still newish looking) to work wear I walk on hard floor and outside all day. So far - so good.
I am looking at the Huckleberry and the Lowa Tempest Lo shoes for basically everyday wear. I am carpenter which means I am on my feet most of the day, up and down stairs, ladders, etc. I live in the midwest so snowy conditions are a factor. Can anyone recommend one pair over the other?
My 2 cents worth is to go with the Lowa. If you weren't going to be dealing with anything other than sunny days I'd say it's a toss-up but the luck I've had with Lowa footwear has been they're really, really great!.....especially in dicey weather. Hope that helps.
Extremely comfortable right out of the box, seems very durable so far no flaws from hiking and some scrambling/easy bouldering. great shoe- I would recommend it.
These shoes are SO COMFY! I always look forward to putting them on, thats how good they feel on my feet. Theyre built tough, the sole is built well, not 1000 pieces or colors. This shoe is excellent.
I had a pair of Hucks for about six months and really liked them. Then the soles started delaminating. Took them back and found out they are made with natural adhesives which is what you expect from Patagonia. Currently waiting for the replacements to show up, been about week. I also discovered that the shoes are actually made by Wolverine which is not what I would expect from Patagonia. To Wolverine's credit they have been around for 100+ years and make shoes and boots for a number of other companies such as Merrell.
I absolutely love this shoe. They seem like they would be stiff when you take them out of the box, but when you put them on it feels like you've been wearing them for years. Super comfortable!! I get tons of complements on them and people love the Juniper Green color. Only thing that I don't like about them is that the tongues are really long on these shoes.
I bought a pair of Huckleberry's a few months ago while they were on clearance (~$60.00 U.S.) and have been using them exclusively as approach shoes in UT. They grip very well on granite and quartzite, and I haven't experienced any of the durability issues mentioned previously (e.g., delaminating soles) - this may, however, stem from only wearing them for climbing approaches. The only con (which isn't a real detriment in my opinion) I presently have is that the laces could be another inch longer (I wear a size 11 Men's U.S.) as they seem a bit short, even when tightened for steep approach scrambles. Also, I am a bit concerned about the thickness of the soles - they seem a bit thin, so I'm not sure that they would last quite as long if used for hiking and around town in addition to approaches for climbing. Pros: very comfortable, stick very well to rock (much better than my old Northface Mantel Approach shoes and Merrell trail runners), firm sole with minimal flex, and overall quality construction. These shoes seem to be designed for the narrow-footed (my preferred sizing in shoes), so I'm not sure if these are a viable option for wider-footed individuals. I would recommend these highly for anyone looking for a top-notch approach shoe.
