On winter days when you wish you could wear your sleeping bag or comforter to go to town, slip into the Patagonia Downtown Loft Parka. Decidedly more elegant than a sleeping bag, the Downtown Loft covers you from head to knee in goose down for those days when temps descend well below zero. The satiny shell sheds light snow and blocks the cold, cold wind on those days when the world seems unbearably blustery and ice-covered. This parka’s long length, contoured baffling, and shawl collar give you chic style that fits in at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City or a Broadway show in New York City.
Bottom Line: Leave your down comforter on the bed where it belongs.
Write your question here...Is there a shorter version of this coat available? I was really looking for one just to the knee or slightly above. I am 5'4".
With this coat, I know I can handle anything that the Boston winter throws at me. Pros are: the silky feel of the fabric, a ring of cozy microfleece on the inside of the sleeves, just by the wrists, the hood with ample coverage, and the two-way zipper (perfect for using a bicycle, taking big strides, or temperature regulation). The fitted shape is fine, although a belted coat would look even sharper. Possible cons are that the fine fabric feels as if it might tear when unbuttoning, though I haven't caused any damage thus far; also, the neckline does not hug the neck so a scarf is sometimes necessary. I usually wear S or M tops; order down if in doubt. I still have room for layers underneath with a S coat.
I am so happy to see that Patagonia has finally come out with a long down coat! A couple of things are not clear from the description, though: 1. Is the hood also down? And does it have a cinch cord? It is hard to tell because it folds away. 2. Are there inner cuffs? 3. What is the center back length (in inches)? 4. How far down does the zipper go? And are there buttons or snaps the rest of the way, so the coat can be fully closed at the front? Thank you...
Catherine, yes, the hood for the Downtown Loft Parka is also down filled and very warm although it does not have a cinch cord. There are no inner cuffs, just a simple clean cuff. The zipper goes almost all the way down - stops about 4 inches from the bottom and is a 2 way zip if you want to have the bottom more open. The snaps also go the same length so you've got double reinforcement for warmth when it gets nasty. Let me know what size you'd like the center back length for and I can get back to you. edit: 45" medium 46" large
I have this in the brown color, which is very pretty! It fits pretty true to size and has a nice fitted look. This coat looks awesome with anything-jeans, leggings w/boots. I love the hood too! I'm short (5'2") and don't feel like it's too long (I got a size Small). Overall, a warm, comfy, stylish down coat!
Sandra, the shell fabric for the Downtown Loft Parka has a DWR coating to block the wind, so between that, and the thickness of the coat and the down insulation it will do a very good job blocking the wind and keeping you warm in the coldest temps.
My third Patagonia coat that is slimming while still being toasty warm thanks to clever seaming. The longer sleeves are great when gloves aren't handy. The zippered on-seam pockets are invisible. The LOOOOOONG length is perfect for walking when when public transportation is too crowded. And it's washable. It's perfect
Not a cuff per se, but there's a ring of microfleece by the wrists on the inside of the sleeves - I was surprised and pleased to find it, since it's quite comfy.
I ordered this coat in size S, but when tried it on, it was too big. More like a Medium to Large. It was very long, and the sleeves were long as well. I thought, well, not a big deal...i'll just swap for XS. Guess what, Backcountry.com carries all the sizes: S, M, L, and XL for this coat, but NOT XS!!!!
So disappointed! someone in purchasing department please take note. Is this a deliberate move not to carry smaller size XS? What is the rationale behind this decision? you think smaller people don't exist any more?
Sorry backcountry, unless you become "XS inclusive", my purchasing dollars are going somewhere else.
Yeah, I totally agree with you. I am 5'1", always need XS especially goes with long coat. It is very disappointing to know the backcountry.com does not carry XS for this adorable coat. Hope someone from the customer service can give the public an answer.
I'm 5'6, slender build and was considering a small but I'm worried the sleeves will be too short...it's happened before. Is there a sleeve length difference btwn small & medium?
Courtney, I think a small Downtown Loft Parka would fit you well and sleeve length should not be an issue. The sleeves for the medium are slightly longer, but I think overall a medium would be too big for you.
How warm is this coat? I get cold really easily and I live in nebraska where it is below freezing all winter and really windy. I also frequently walk long distances in the winter. If this is not the warmest coat, what is?
Write your question here...I really love that coat but not sure about the length since I am petite. Anybody knows if it is too long for petite women to wear?
Camelia, if you love the coat, give it a shot. The smaller sizes are shorter in length and designed for smaller girls. I think you'll really like it if you're looking for a long coat that hits below the knees.
Thanks for your reply Ty - I have consulted the Patagonia sizing chart on the website and I fall into the small category for chest and hip measurements but am just on the cusp of the medium category with a 28in waist. I'm 5'8" so don't think length will be too much of an issue. I'm leaning towards a medium because I know I will have a few layers on underneath the jacket but don't want to be swimming in it because I love the shape of this jacket! Any ideas?!?!?!?
Ali, ok I changed my mind on the medium and now I'd say give it a shot in the small. For a puffy jacket it's actually a pretty flattering cut, so I agree it'd be a bummer if you were swimming in it. good luck!
I am tossing up between buying this jacket in a small or a medium...I am between the two sizes. Does anyone know if this jacket is a slim or looser fit?
