Patagonia Down Jacket - Women's

Pull on the Patagonia Women's Down Jacket to stay warm during your next three-hour ice belay, basecamp rest day, or a long-awaited break on a backcountry ski tour. At only 19oz, the Patagonia Down Jacket keeps weight-conscious climbers and skiers happy. Its DWR-coated ripstop nylon shell keeps the 700-fill down insulation dry when an unexpected snowstorm hits. The Down Jacket's contoured cut and quilted side panels minimize bulk and increase mobility for times when it's actually cold enough to climb with it on.

Bottom Line: Keeps the chill away on your next winter adventure.

It's great just don't wash it! I washed mine as per instructions and it lost all it's puff and the feathers started coming out. Fit small also, order one size up.

Still Cold

By:
November 5, 2007

I love this jacket and it's size for around town, but it's much better suited for dry cold climates. I used it in Ecuador for some mountaineering and it was great but then i went up to the Dacks to go ice climbing and I needed another down jacket and about 6 more layers to be warm. This jacket did not do well with <10 degree wet cold weather.

To what temperature is this down jacket good for? I know this

To what temperature is this down jacket good for? I know this is a subjective question, but I'd love to hear people's experiences with this jacket. It's a cute jacket, but I'm worried it won't keep me warm enough in the mountains.

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on how this jacket compares to The North Face's Thunder Down Jacket?

Thanks!

THIS IS MY FAVORITE JACKET

By:
November 5, 2007

Super cozy. I bought this for a backcountry touring trip, and now I can't take it off. The fit is very slim and flattering, so if you plan on wearing bulky layers underneath, size up. I prefer to wear it with only a very light layer underneath, and have found it to be excellent, warm, and very cozy.

I've heard that this jacket should be ordered one size up

I've heard that this jacket should be ordered one size up - just wanted see if people here think this is the case? I'm 5'2" and 110 lbs and I'm not sure what size to get - any thoughts?

Believe this is a climbing jacket

By:
February 16, 2009

I believe that Patagonia meant this to be a climbing jacket hence the larger shoulder area and short jacket length. When you buy a jacket be sure you understand what activities it was designed for. Many people buy a jacket thinking all jackets are for wearing to town or skiing and that is not the case. A town jacket will be longer and closer fitting. One that is designed for specific activities will be cut with the movement patterns in mind. Climbers need to move in all directions and the jackets must be cut differently for that. Ski jackets sometimes have articulated sleeves because your elbows are bent most of the time when you ski. Be sure to read what the jacket is designed for and that will give you an idea of how and why it is cut the way it is. You need longer sleeves if you are always reaching up as in climbing.

Not what I was hoping for...

By:
January 9, 2009

I ordered this with expectations that it would be thicker warmer etc. My fault for not doing proper research, and buying without seeing. It's more of a fashion jacket than one you want to throw in your pack. I think Patagonia is kind of changing as a company. Anyways, looks nice to go out in. Very good experience with Backcountry.com.

Patagonia Down Jacket

By:
December 15, 2008

Overall - Wonderful! Sleeves are long enough, no cold gets in. Shaped to flatter a womans figure. And VERY warm. I will have this until all the feathers fall out....which will be forever because I've only lost about 10. Fleece on the inner collar is great because there are no marks from your face - and no chaffing on your face. It's my first piece of Patagonia outerwear and I'm hooked.

Looong arms!

By:
February 27, 2009

I was so excited about this jacket. I have the vest version in black and love its fit. Then I got it. The arms are really, really long and poofy. My fingertips barely cleared them and to push the sleeves up looked ridiculous. The beetroot color was also disappointing. It looked like a gorgeous, rich blueish red-burgundy online but was a washed-out lighter red "in person." I'm sure this is a great jacket for someone but not me, alas. Sent it back.

I am looking at the Patagonia womens Down Jacket or the Mountain

I am looking at the Patagonia womens Down Jacket or the Mountain Hardware womens "Downtown" jacket. Which would you recommend - one over the other and why or are both about the same?

I've heard that the women's patagonia down is hit or miss as far as fit goes. I've found that the simpler cut on the mountain hardware coats (in general) accomodates more women's shapes. Also, I feel that mountain hardware does very well with down. I hope that helps.

okay coat

By:
December 23, 2008

The good is that this coat is very light, warm and a beautiful color. The bad is that it's short and the cold goes right up your back. The large was too big and puffed in strange places looking very silly and the medium was too snug. I'll be returning this one and keeping the North Face coat I ordered.

Warm jacket, tiny package

By:
May 27, 2009

Lightweight, comfy jacket still allows for a pretty good range of motion while being active, fits above a harness or hipbelt, and gives me a shape other than round. Not too bulky and packs really well, but still has sufficient loft to keep me toasty.

Bad Zippers

By:
January 29, 2009

I love this coat except for it's whimpy zippers. It is super warm for it's light weight and doesn't make you look like a snowman. I going to write to Patagonia and see if they can put in better zippers. The main zipper has split many times. I just hate to send it back and be without the coat. The pocket zippers are bad also. They get caught on extra material.

Wonderful belay jacket

By:
April 14, 2009

I put on this jacket when belaying on ice climbing trips and resting during climbing and snow shoeing. It is a very warm and light jacket for that purpose. It comes with a stuff pack so it compresses very small for easy packing. I am 5'5 and 115lb but ordered an S to fit over the other layers.

Very strange fit

By:
February 11, 2009

I bought the beetroot color--more like salmon/coral. Interesting color, but looked awful on me. My big beef was with the fit, though. The sleeves were incredibly long and the body was incredibly short (and I'm very average sized). Also, the shoulders were exceptionally poofy, resulting in this strange "rounded" look that made my arms/shoulders look like one big horseshoe! It was very warm and light and compressible but for $200, I expect to look pretty good too! Bottom line: If you have a very short torso, monkey arms and a horseshoe-shaped shoulder girdle, this is the jacket for you! If not, skip it :)

Perfect for cold days in the backcountry!

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 18, 2006

This is the warmest jacket I've owned - whether I wear it to work, skiing, or hiking in the backcountry during winter, it hasn't disappointed me. The fit is very slim, but has enough room for 1-2 light layers underneath. It is not bulky, so it fits easily beneath my hard shell on extremely cold days. The material is more durable than other down jackets I have owned. Despite a few run-ins with tree branches & rocks it is still unscathed. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a down jacket that can serve multiple purposes .
