Patagonia Capilene 4 Hooded Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's

The Patagonia Women's Capilene 4 Hoody provides much-needed insulation when you head into the backcountry on cold days. Wear this hooded top as a mid-layer under your ski shell and make fresh turns in the winter, or take it out alone on a chilly fall hike. Patagonia made the Capilene 4 Hoody with 50% recycled materials and gave it an incredibly soft feel along with excellent wicking performance to keep you comfortable.

Bottom Line: When regular base layers won't cut it, grab the Patagonia Capilene 4 Hoody from your pack to stay warm.

Perfect Layer

By:

This shirt is amazing. I was scared when I got it since its much lighter and thinner than the old Cap 4, but it's much better. I wore this for the first time hiking a fourteener. It got really cold and windy at the top so i flipped up the hood and slipped my hands through the thumb holes. It was the perfect amount of warmth... Plus, even though I was really sweaty, the shirt did a very good job at keeping me dry so the wind didn't freeze me. On the way down as it warmed up I unzipped it all the way down and instantly cooled off. My boyfriend wanted one after that trip but they don't make it in mens... this was an excellent investment!

VERY tight fit, beware - if you have any pudges this will exaggerate them once your jacket is off! Sleeve length was best part, nice and long for those chilly days. Warm.

Versatile Layering Piece

By:
December 11, 2007

Another great Patagonia layering piece for cold weather outdoor activities. A little cumbersome for skiing (the hood gets in the way), but a perfect top layer for trail running and hiking. Also great with an insulated vest for snowshoeing, and super comfortable for lounge or travel wear. You will LOVE this top!

Very versatile -- fast becoming my favorite 1st layer

By:

I've been wearing this hoody as a first layer for winter hiking, snowshoeing, and XC skiing, and love it. It is warm but very breathable and I can easily add layers on top of it.
I like the hood, which I've sometimes worn under my hat when starting off on a cold morning. Later, as I warm up, it makes a comfortable light layer -- sort of like wearing a light-weight balaclava, but easier to pull off or back on. It hangs out of the way easily when I don't need to wear it.
I think this will also be a great top to wear by itself when the weather warms up a bit, but hasn't become hot yet.

Excellent versatile hoody

By:

I bought this piece originally for my wife as an outdoors baselayer, but she likes the style and comfort so much that she uses it almost exclusively as a travel piece (occasionally, on cold days, she use it as a "lounge" piece). I'm tempted to buy her another one for backcountry use (that she won't mind sweating into). The quality is excellent and obviously it has many good uses. The fabric seems to be able to fit a range of builds (my wife is very petite and the hoody looks just right, despite the stretchy qualities). Non-bulky.
